Birthday ideas for 13 year old?

I'd love some fresh ideas.

Trying to think of a nice way to celebrate my soon to be 13 year old's birthday.

basic perameters are;

  • He has autism and does not want a party or any friends to be involved 'Just family' which means his parents and him only
  • He is not sporty and does not enjoy trying new things that are sports related
  • he likes ten pin bowling but we have resorted to that every year
  • budget around £300
  • He is afraid of the cinema
  • He does like little trips away, but they have to feature alot of chill time in locations where there is wifi so he can game
  • not keen on museums or art galleries
  • has no idea of what he would like to do so says when I ask him 'I don't know'
  • he possibly might have the tolerance to sit through half of a live show of some sort- we are used to leaving things at interval as he can't cope any more so that would be okay
  • loves Zendaya; Ariana Grande; and the series Wednesday
  • very limited tolerance of food so a fancy restaurant probably out...... although could within reason consider this if we preapre him very carefully in advance

If it were left to me I would take him on a weekend city break abroad but for various reasons we will be abroad twice this year (all family obligations so not really 'holidays' and I realise we are very lucky) and DH is already panicking about the costs of those trips on our budget.

I'd just love MN hive mind ideas really!

TIA!

Ok so following on from the Roast Potato Sandwich, DS has just informed me that he's also had a Mashed Potato Sandwich which was also amazing but not as good as roast potato. DH has also chimed in with a vote for a Hash Brown Sandwich😆

My son loved a trip to a retro gaming arcade near us.

My daughter enjoyed an escape room on her 13th. Great group activity for us less sport inclined types!

How about an afternoon tea, if he likes those types of foods?

If he wants to stay home, you could make it a big treat day full of things he likes; big treat breakfast of choice (pancakes for my daughter, full English for my son), film / TV/ gaming marathon of his choice, some sort of family board game (my 13yo lives taskmaster so their board game is good for her, or exitus do escape room in a box things where you all work together. ) Living room disco of the singers he likes, takeaway of his choice etc?

I saw a fab Wednesday themed birthday cake on social media if you know anyone good at cake decorating- the stained glass window.

Love the idea of a Wednesday themed birthday cake!

Loving all these ideas, thank you very much everyone.

I have written down every single suggestion and will discuss with him today. I'll bring them up and then leave him to mull over it as he usually needs time to digest things.

It will be interesting to see what he will be interested in (versus what i assume he will be interested in!) But loads of ideas for holidays and weekends as well so I am so pleased I posted. I was a bit worried people would think ; ' huh? Don't you know what your own child would like to do?!!'

Thank you again Thanks
