Swivel car seat recommendations

Boshi · 02/03/2023 23:16

Hi, looking to get a swivel car seat for my 9 month old, not sure what centile she is but she’s not super tall or heavy.

We had the britax dualfix for my older dc and were quite happy with that (apart from the ££ price). Are there any other models that anyone can recommend?

This thread is a little old now so some of the suggestions may be out of date, but if you’ve landed here looking for a swivel car seat, we’ve recently updated our best 360 spin car seats article with lots of great options, as tried and tested by Mumsnet users. We hope you find it useful. Flowers

We have the nuna 360 and love it!

CraazyCatLady · 03/03/2023 03:21

Joie 360 is good, and is usually a reasonable price, if you get the older version. It has really good reviews for safety.

Boshi · 03/03/2023 08:31

Has anyone tried the ickle bubba 360 - it seems to be the cheapest rotating seat atm.

the joie looks good for price and safety 👍🏼

Joie ispin 360

MissJam · 03/03/2023 10:24

We got the Joie I spin 360 which is currently £249 at Halfords

chillih · 03/03/2023 10:47

We have the Graco Turn To Me, very happy with it.

Boshi · 03/03/2023 12:30

Thank you all, thinking of the joie 360 or silver cross motion

has anyone bought an all through seat - to age 12? The silver cross motion goes to 12 and is a rotating seat - any reason why it’s not a good idea?

We got the Joie 360 when DC1 turned 1 and then moved her to a Joie every stages at about 3 so that DC2 could have the 360.

I would have thought a swivel seat up to 12 would be massive? Not really necessary once they can belt themselves in.

Lots of reasons. Multistage seats perform poorly in crash safety tests at all ages because it’s not possible to meet the needs of a newborn and a 12 year old.

For your child to be safe they need to be rear facing for as long as possible, age 4 minimum but 6/7 ideally.

I’ve attached a photo of the safest seats on the market.

Very happy with our Joie 360, now with our second child in it.

Can't comment on the others.

Cybex sirona

NameChange30 · 03/03/2023 13:00

Weigh and measure your child and check what centiles she is on for weight and height.

At 9 months old she should fit in her infant seat for a while longer so you have time.

If you are looking for a good value seat, go for Joie as they have good safety ratings. Do not get Ickle Bubba or Silver Cross. Good brands to consider are Britax, Axkid, Cybex but they are likely to be more expensive than Joie.

There's a new Dualfix which is up to 20kg rather than the usual 18kg which I think is really worth looking at. It's improved over the original model with a better recline and taller shell. See if you can look at one in a store.

If you've used a Dualfix before I think you might be frustrated with the Joie. The Joie is nice if you haven't used anything else but the harness and inserts are bulkier and more awkward than the Dualfix.

In general the all the way up to 12 ones are a false economy. They're too babyish to use as a booster seat all the way through as well so you end up replacing them anyway. You can get a decent booster seat for £50 and it will be brand new, so there's no point paying an extra £100 just to have one built in when it weakens the integrity of the other stages. Stick to car seats that do one job at a time.

The in car safety centre had an offer on the Besafe one recently which is a fantastic deal - recommend looking at that if it's still going.

Agree Joie or Graco are decent, Ickle Bubba is cheap and shows it. It has a really awkward tether, the fittings are flimsy, the spin looks stiff.

crackersforcheese · 03/03/2023 14:16

I've had a cosatto all in all rotate and I didn't like it, so swapped to the joie 360 and love it!

The Dualfix can be forward facing and has not passed the Swedish plus test. It also only goes up to 20kg.

For the price you’d spend on that you could get any number of 25kg ERF Swedish plus tested seats that would last your child until 6/7.

BridieConvert · 03/03/2023 16:33

Have used both the joie 360 and maxi cosi assisfix - would recommend both of them but probably lean slightly more towards the joie!

Boshi · 03/03/2023 20:47

Thanks, really helpful advice! I am looking specifically for rotating car seats, only needed from 9 months plus to 4 years. I take the point about seats that go up to 12 being a bit of a false economy.

what is the Swedish plus test? Is it a safety rating?

leaning towards the joie, Britax or besafe. I need to find a retailer that has these on show, used to be kiddicare or mothercare when my last was a baby 🥲

I was happy with the Britax dualfix, it was easy to clean (my oldest vomited loads) and was very smooth to operate, was just hoping for something of a similar quality and performance but a bit cheaper!

LysHastighed · 03/03/2023 20:52

Sweden has the highest standards of car seat safety so the seats that pass their test are considered the safest available

FamilyAreEverything · 03/03/2023 21:32

The Swedish Plus Test is the toughest crash test in the world for children’s car seats. The only car seats that pass this test are rear facing seats as the test measures the load placed on the neck of the child in an accident at 35mph and with shorter breaking distance.

Is there a particular reason that you want a swivel seat? They tend to be much bigger and bulkier than extended rear facing seats, and the swivel can be difficult to use when your toddler gets bigger. Unless you have very low centile child, they are also often outgrown before reaching a safe booster age.

@FoxInSocksSatOnBlocks has posted a great info graphic with the safest seats on the market

desperadodogface · 03/03/2023 21:48

We've got the joie 360. I love it but I've heard it's outgrown for larger centile kids. Luckily I have a midget 😂 Car seat safety uk on Facebook is an amazing group!

Boshi · 03/03/2023 22:09

@FamilyAreEverything i had a swivel seat for my other dc and found it to be so much easier (had a non swivel in second car). Also this time round I have persisting pgp so it will def be helpful to have a seat that little one can eventually just climb into

thank you @FoxInSocksSatOnBlocks I had a look for Swedish tested swivel seats and looks like joie ispin safe and 360 tested well, also besafe izi twist so I just need to look at these in store and will pick the one I like the look of

I don't know where you're based, but if you're anywhere near a branch of the In Car Safety Centre (ICSC) I'd recommend them.

It is good to be able to see the seats and good retailers will let you try the fit in your car before buying.

Yes, I'm aware of that but OP wanted a spin seat and mentioned that she liked the Dualfix previously.
