Where can I find a good condensed version of the Game Of Thrones for DC?

Odd one but DC have been asking about it but I am not keen on them watching it as there is too much of it and they are too young really. Is there a Complete Works Of Shakespeare type visual resource in existence which conveys the plot, location, dynamics well? Thanks

I watched a single episode of Game of Thrones, promptly concluded my life wasn't improved by watching even people pretending to be raped on screen, never mind tortured and switched it off.

I get they are excellent stories if you want to watch that sort of thing but they are really really not suitable for a 12 year old.

another1bitestheduck · 02/03/2023 18:00

Can't you just read the wikipedia entry if you just want a summary?
What are your reasons for it though - if it's to work out whether it's suitable for a 12 year old then, easy answer, no, it's not! Although it probably is very likely that a lot of his classmates have seen it.
If it's so your DC can read it so can talk about it with his mates, again, can't really see what him reading a summary would achieve. I doubt his friends will be talking about the intricacies of a patriarchal succession crisis or fantasy depictions of medieval warfare and the historical inspiration - it'll be 'did you see them having sex in x episode' or 'would you rather have a dragon or a direwolf.'

For a 12 year old???

No bloody way. Nothing even within 100 miles of appropriate.

Strictly over 18. It’s one of the most graphically disturbing things I’ve ever seen. Even a summary of it would be grossly inappropriate for anyone under 18. I wouldn’t let my just 17 year old watch it or even be milling about whilst it was on.

Vlunken · 02/03/2023 18:13

I'm going against the grain here - not suitable for a 12 year old but 15+ is fine imo.

Emptycrackedcup · 02/03/2023 18:14

Yeah really not appropriate. Try The Hobbit or Lord of the Rings

Fucking hell, 15?! Have you seen it!

Vlunken · 02/03/2023 18:20

Yeah I have seen it and so have some of dd16s friends, and they've read the books as well. Dd has no interest in it but if you are a teen who likes gore then it's fine imo. I wouldn't encourage it but if they could handle it it wouldn't bother me if they watched at 15/16

Ciri · 02/03/2023 18:21

It isn’t the gore it’s the extremely saddistic sexual violence.

Nootherwayout · 02/03/2023 18:22

No there isn’t a PG version, the whole story would have to be cut! I wouldn’t let DS (13) watch it until he was 16ish.

HeBeaverandSheBeaver · 02/03/2023 18:29

Try Harry Potter
The hunger games
Lord of the rings etc

Got is VERY sexualised
VERY violent.

Incest rape torture violence
Gore sexual torture etc etc
I love it as the characters are amazing but it's definitely not for under 16 at the youngest

Sorry, I meant 12 upwards not sure where KS came in from ! A mature 12 year old who has already watched some grown up series already.
If there is nothing, then that is fine. I was just asking as I have not watched it myself.

The other options for reading are the Wikipedia information about the show

Other than the official novels, which are like Harry Potter length books, there is only the tv show itself to watch.

purpledalmation · 02/03/2023 18:40

You're bonkers.

PuppyMonkey · 02/03/2023 18:48

Anyone else really Grin at the KS 1 and 2 typo.

Sure OP has got the message now.

OP, tell DC to watch The Last of Us instead.

AllTangledUpInThisTango · 02/03/2023 18:51

Tbf my reaction would have been just as emphatic had it said 12 right from the beginning!

Absolutely not okay for that age.

doadeer · 02/03/2023 18:54

Wtf!

The amount of violence, rape, sex - it's hard watching as an adult!

There are loads of fantasy series that are better for younger ages

skippy67 · 02/03/2023 18:57

Me and dd started watching it when she was 14. I didn't know much about it tbh, but she said she wanted to watch it so we did. There had already been two series, so we had the option to binge watch if we wanted to. We both really enjoyed it. Yes, it's really violent, loads of sex and swearing etc, but it's also visually stunning and the story is great if you can follow it all😅

The Last Of Us is so boring.

The Spartacus series is quite similar too

ZiriForEver · 02/03/2023 23:47

12 yo is curious about popculture, it's pretty normal and rather than saying "no", I'd try to find a way.

I'd say check together some plot summary and follow with clips on youtube- best moments of Daenerys, House of Stark, life of Arya, Olena being badass,.... Youtube cuts don't focus on the sex and violance and you can still get to know the basic chatacters, appearances, quotes.

I hate gore on big screen, so the series clearly isn't for me, but I like fantasy stories, so I wanted to somehow get it and YouTube clips on my phone were great compromise.

crackofdoom · 02/03/2023 23:53

I would have suggested YouTube clips as well, but only if you don't think it will increase their appetite to somehow get to see the whole thing by hook or by crook. And I very much doubt any of their friends are allowed to watch it- kids this age are such bullshitters 🙄

Wishiwasatailor · 02/03/2023 23:56

I would watch the GOT king of recaps before making a decision about if it’s appropriate it condenses it into about 20mins. It still has a lot of the very adult themes so would give you an overview.

Wishiwasatailor · 02/03/2023 23:57

King of recaps is on YouTube
