First car aged 28? Help!

Automatic driving license

28 years old, with a 1.5 year old. I would buy it on PCP either new or nearly new - I'm a nervous driver so would prefer things to be higher spec to make it easier/more comfortable to drive.

Need space for a stroller, shopping, etc. Would like something not cramped inside. I was considering a Hyundai i10 but apparently the auto gearbox is no good. Was also looking at Toyota Aygo X but it looks a bit weird.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

I love my Hyundai i10. It was my first car aged 31. Am on my second now. It's a brilliant first car. Cheap to run and fun to drive. I read the reviews on the auto gear box. It didn't bother me. Though I got such a good deal on a Manual, so bought that instead. Boot is tiny though. I couldn't get a medium suitcase in my first one due to the angle of the back seat. The 2020 model is a bit deeper, so a bit better.

Loads of room inside though. My 6ft 3 friend is comfortable in it and I have my filing bike on the backseat. And still room for someone to squeeze in bevy to it.

Autocar rates it well for everything except performance.

Hyundai i20. Great car

I love my i10 too, surprisingly spacious in the back.

The i10 is brilliant, so nice to drive and surprisingly roomy inside. If you want slightly bigger than go for an i20, we have one and I love it.

Honda Jazz is tardis like and I never hear a bad word about it.

I'd also be checking euro ncap safety scores. That's where we started

I just bought my first car at 29 and I have a 20 month old.. I got an auto ford fiesta, its pretty spacious and the boot is a good size too :) haven't tried fitting the pushchair in it yet though!

I've seen a lot of positive things about the manual i10 so was gutted when I saw the negativity around the auto! Does anyone have experience driving an auto i10?

Kinda same situation here! Passed my test last august automatic too with a toddler.

I wanted to feel safe not in a tiny car so I bought a Nissan Juke (I know they’re like marmite)

automatics can still be quite pricey but I paid 5k 2012 reg and it had 130k miles which sounds expensive but when I was looking at the time, the automatics out there were so old, few and far between and my juke had full service history, 1 lady owner, reversing cameras, interior and exterior is immaculate

i usually drive eco mode around town it’s quite economic on that. Had no problems almost had it a year - even drove it in snow and didn’t struggle

The boots not huge but I can fit my stroller and my toddlers bike and another bag in there, we’ve been away on holiday twice with it, I was quite lucky really it’s a lottery with cars

I was told low mileage is a must but my car was really looked after, meanwhile my dads new mini he bought broke down on the way home so there’s that to consider

Skoda Fabia. Very roomy. Big boot. Very nippy and economical. Good on board technology and infotainment. Decently priced. I love mine ♥️
