Can you get into ‘top’ jobs from Sheffield

I’ve just been to DD’s parents evening and she’s doing a lot better in her A levels that we believed she would do. She’s got an offer from Sheffield for AAB. We think that, in the best case scenario, she could get A*AA. I really like Sheffield and it’s a solid RG university. However, if she did get those grades then would it be worth looking at other universities, maybe Durham or UCL. She wants to study history. Will it actually make any difference to her outcomes with a degree from Sheffield or anywhere else? Will she be in any way limited if she goes to Sheffield compared to if she applied for Durham?

What does she want to do? She might struggle for IB / magic circle law but it’s not impossible if she is dedicated and on it applying for internships etc.

Any other job will be fine! For reference I did History at Sheffield and had jobs offers from 3 of the Big4.

Lots of my friends work in good, international law firms.

Another thing to bear in mind is the Student Union and how supportive it is. Sheffield Student's Union has come top for the last couple of years and frequently before that. Sheffield is a brilliant place for students and it has easy access to wherever in the UK you live. It is also a cheaper place to live whilst at uni.

For Humanities students the eventual career outcome from a RG is largely dependent on their own interest and motivation. As PP mentions getting relevant work experience, having a job waitressing or whatever whilst studying and then completing internships are much more important for most sectors. But that’s a lot of work and students need to be motivated to do their own research into careers, work with the careers service etc.
