Giving birth with conjunctivitis!!

Oh it’s typical isn’t it. Waited nearly 40 weeks and here I am a day away from induction and woken up with a mild chest infection and conjunctivitis which my toddler has kindly passed on!

my question is though…. Is it ok that I am going to be in close contact with newborn whilst I have conjunctivitis? It is clearly very contagious and getting a little worried..

Chamomile tea is really good. A doctor told me and it really works. Wipe your eyes and dribble it in. I did it every hour to start with as dd’s eyes were pouring and then 4 x daily for a few days.

I made a cup every morning and evening and just reused it. A fresh wipe every time or just drip from your fingertip.

As an aside, the skin on my hands loves it as a bit of a rinse.

Let your midwife know today

If it is safe they may consider giving you a date a few days later for induction so it can be treated, it is very infectious as you learned 😞
Good luck with bub. In 6 months this will be but a blip in your memory

I would contact your midwife and/or GP urgently if you think you have a chest infection and are about to be induced. You don't want to be labouring with that and if you do have an actual infection (not a virus) you might need antibiotics and they may chose to delay the induction.

You can buy drops over the counter for conjunctivitis though. I'd get some ASAP this morning so they can get to work.

If you've got any colostrum use it on your eye. Any time the kids get it. I use breastmilk to wipe thier eyes and it clears in a day.
