Inspired by an ongoing thread.

In your opinion and on your experiences should cannabis be illegal to grow, sell or consume.

My view is yes to all. With restrictions. Happy to be told I am wrong.

I don't know what they would look like but yes in general as I believe it's less harmful than alcohol.

I speak as a person who is a consumer on a weekend. Not every weekend and maybe once a month but yes a consumer.

I'd like quality checks. I'd be prepared to pay tax on this like alcohol.

I broadly think all drugs should be decriminalised and available for regulated purchase as standardised and tested substances, including the ones I have no interest in taking, such as cannabis and heroin.

Heytheredaisy · 01/03/2023 22:21

When I was a kid (about 10), I was chased by my friends mum who had been smoking weed. She was carrying a huge knife and was psychotic on the stuff.

A police investigation concluded it was some sort of drug induced psychosis.

So, dont mind me but I'd rather if it remained illegal.

Such traumatic memories 😔

changedforonenightonly · 01/03/2023 22:21

@TrombonesAreNotBones haha. I've had two big glasses of wine. Prob not the best time to raise this. You can take over xxx

Wine on the other hand sounds great!! You enjoy OP x

Beachbabe1 · 01/03/2023 22:23

My husband certainly wants it to be legalised!! I dont smoke it anymore but if weed is bad, alcohol is just as bad! It causes a lot more violence, A&E cases etc. Although, when I have a horrendous migraine that tablets wont budge, 3 puffs and it's gone! Miracle stuff!!

changedforonenightonly · 01/03/2023 22:23

@Heytheredaisy

And this is exactly why we need to hear both sides.

First off I am so sorry about that deeply traumatic event you experienced. That is a disturbing and horrible incident.

However, this is so so rare compared to the thousands of incidents of deaths, violence, crime etc etc that alcohol cause every week.
Cannabis is a million times safer. Most people use it to relax and with no ill effects.

If it was legal and taxed you'd remove this eventually

The UK general population haven't had the exposure to the knowledge on cannabis yet. Its becoming more widespread but there is too much misinformation for it to be understood by the majority. To make it legal for possession, consumption and growing overnight is overturning it far too quickly for people to catch up with the idea of acceptance. I would like to see decriminalisation to be introduced before a totally legal free for all. The effects of this in Portugal are a good example of the benefits of this.

Heytheredaisy · 01/03/2023 22:26

If it could be grown safely and at a regulated strength (is that a thing?)

So there aren't toxic / strong variants on the market - that would put me at ease!

I can see why it can be useful for people though x

Comefromaway · 01/03/2023 22:27

I don’t think that small scale users should be criminalised.

However, having seen how easily available vapes are to underage people I think that for it to be decriminalised there should be VERY harsh penalties for selling to under 18’s.

Comefromaway · 01/03/2023 22:28

I’m glad that cbd oil is now legal.

freyamay74 · 01/03/2023 22:28

Alcohol is fecking poison, let's be honest, none of these drugs are desirable. Weed is often smoked with tobacco which is rank and extremely bad for health.
Perhaps decriminalisation is the lesser of two evils when you think of all the crime, exploitation, trafficking associated with illegal substances.
But frankly I'd rather avoid it, specially as I've no desire to voluntarily pour more tax than I need to into govt coffers

Nimbostratus100 · 01/03/2023 22:28

so you openly admit supporting child slavery, and think this is ok?

Have been in the mental health system and seen the fall out from cannabis use.
Everyone claims it is not addictive... it fucking is.

GulfCoastBeachGirl · 01/03/2023 22:30

I live in the US in one of the states where it is legal for recreational use. The advantage to going into a shop that specializes in weed is that you know exactly what you're getting and what the THC content is. It's not going to be laced with who-knows-what.

The staff can also give advice on what edible might help with insomnia or anxiety or pain, etc.

Honestly, it's not my thing but I support legalization. I believe it can be abused, it's not completely harmless and some people are worse off for it. But far more people will die from alcohol related health issues.

I believe they can grow certain strains to do this. So one strain is super one way and another is super another.

Stativa vs indicata. No reason one couldn't be adapted. I'm sure in places it's legal you can specify what you want strength wise / no effects.

OP posts:
WalkAwaySugarbear · 01/03/2023 22:32

Legalise it and tax it. Why cant we progress into healthier and legal ways to consume it, gummies or oil drops rather than smoking with tobacco.
Even the USA where abortion is criminalised has legal weed.

changedforonenightonly · 01/03/2023 22:33

Nimbostratus100 · 01/03/2023 22:28

so you openly admit supporting child slavery, and think this is ok?

No I'm not. I buy from a person who grows within a place I know. No county lines. No dealers. One person whom I've known for over 20 years. Prior to him I did it myself. I no longer have the space.
