Please tell me your sick bug protocol!

Dd1 seems to be frequently bringing home sick bugs. Ds8 never did, and is turning into an emetophobe because of it.

What's your best sick bug protocol to prevent spread?
What products do I need to have in in advance?

Please be really descriptive! I have never understood what people mean when they say 'i bleached it' (did you use bleach neat? How did you do it?).

Wow. Just wow. I've never done any of this and we all seem to have survived. DD has never actually physically vomited. Ever. I can't remember the last time I vomited... probably due to excess alcohol a few years ago (when I was out of practise!).

Do you ever consider that this cleaning behaviour is creating a weaker immune system in your kids? This amount of vomiting can't be normal?

Presumably you don’t know anybody IRL whose kids throw up sometimes either
Hmm

DC1 is very prone to sick bugs - in the past two years, she's had 8 😯 However, all 8 times, I've managed to contain it to just her.

  1. She's very good at knowing when she will be sick, so if at all possible, she uses the downstairs toilet. No-one else uses this toilet for next few days. The last bug she had was overnight, so had to use a sick bowl in her room as she was sleeping in between, but each time I washed it out with bleach.
  1. I'm the one who deals with it, I try and keep DH and DC2 away. I actually wear a mask and rubber gloves.
  1. Each time she's sick in toilet, I fill sink with hot water and squirt of bleach and use baby wipes to clean toilet, flush, floor, sink, taps, soap dispenser, door handles etc. Then throw them away. Anti-bacterial sprays don't usually work on sick bugs, it has to be bleach.
  1. As above, try and keep DH and DC2 separate. If school day, DH will take DC2 to school and then go to office, if weekend, DH will take DC2 out somewhere. Separate baths, no close contact etc.
  1. Pray for the next 48 hours 🤣

Might sound a bit militant, but I am also emetophobic and I get quite anxious if I can't follow my 'routine'...

Emetaphobic here!!

We are lucky enough to have an en-suite, so I bring them in with me, and put their mattress on the floor by the en-suite.
After they have been sick I wear a pair of disposable gloves to clean everywhere, and wear a mask myself during the whole process (before covid I used a scarf!) so I don't catch anything.
Everything is cleaned with anti bac and kitchen roll, then sprayed with the detol spray that you don't have to wipe down. Everything that they touch is also wiped/sprayed, apart from their drinks bottle, but I give them a fresh one when empty and wear gloves to put it in the dishwasher.
I need to be in charge so I know where the germs are. Their dad would let them go anywhere and touch anything and it would spread like wildfire!

Ha ha, very similar here. Even though I hate it, I need to be the one dealing with it, I wouldn't trust DH to clean up sufficiently.

Hand washing, no kisses, antibac spray the bowl after each episode and anything else the vomit touched. Never caught a sickness bug from my kids, rarely get a cold from them either following the above. They get to eat and drink what they want while they are being sick. Doctor told me it's better something goes in than nothing.

My DD (10 months) has a stomach bug at the moment. We thought she was better so DH took her for a walk in the pram and she threw up all over it.

How do you clean a pram?? It's all in the fabric of the straps and in the stitching 🤢 I've scrubbed it the best I can but I don't think I've actually got it all off. Do I just cover it in a bleach spray, rinse off thoroughly, and hope for the best?

Currently in this right now, sickness bug doing the rounds. 3 year old being sick is another level and I'm just waiting the inevitable.

A lot of the fabric parts should detach and can be washed in the sink or machine. Whatever is left I would clean with a mixture of washing powder and warm water and give it a good rinse down. Hope she is better soon x

We'll ve all had covid and nevertheless caught it from each other, all had it a few times now.

No bleach!

Dettol spray

Alcohol hand wipes

Ventilation, ventilation, ventilation.

Each time we've been sick we can't avoid each other but we have ventilation and windows open even if just evry hour.

Also dettol washing liquid for bedding and towels.
