My 9 year old daughter has had this bruise on her ankle which she brought to my attention about a month ago and said it had been there for a few weeks at least. I have kept an eye on it for the last few weeks and it hasn’t changed at all.

i have a GP appointment for her next week but I’m really worrying. I also feel bad for not noticing it, but she’s a really active kid, always running, climbing, so bruises generally come and go.

Are there any non scary reasons that a bruise will still be there after so long? Google is not my friend right now. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Please help reassure me… daughter has had this bruise for 2 months.

By all means get her checked
but can it be (from where it is) that it’s more a friction burn cause by her shoes and if she’s wearing the same shoes and running/playing with them the skin is not healing?

Totally agree both above. Looks like a friction burn to me.

My 12 yo has a very similar bruise in almost exactly the same place, which has been there for about 3 years! We showed it to the GP who referred him for a CT scan, which showed it was nothing to worry about. I think it may have been this but can’t remember for sure, so don’t quote me on that.

I think the other posters are correct and this bruise comes from her footwear. If the top of her shoes/trainers is rubbing her skin, even a couple of hours a day wearing them will cause the bruise.

Some practical ideas for you to consider are:

  • cutting the shoe/trainer so it isn’t rubbing on her skin
  • wearing thicker socks
  • putting a large Elastoplast over the bruise to protect the skin
  • get new shoes/trainers which don’t rub.

Try these out and see if the bruise reduces. There might not be a need to see your GP if this happens.

Is it definitely a bruise? I have similarly dark colouring on my ankles there (along with slightly harder skin) because of the way I sit and tuck my legs under me.

Doe it hurt like a bruise if she pokes it? My daughter has marks like these from where she likes to sit cross legged and her ankles rub on the floor- they don't hurt but are darker and feel a bit dryer than the skin around it.
