They are adults. Everything on a hot wash. If you’ve any tea tree oil pop in on your scalps. They hate it. Get treated properly tomorrow and and treat furniture and carpets. They can be gnarly fuckers to get rid of.

Liceylicey · 28/02/2023 23:32

Oh they are in his back as I picked them off his head and put them there a second to take a photo !

Then of course squashed them to kill them and then binned them

Agree on smothering with conditioner and combing every day for 2 weeks to keep heads clear. All bedding on hot washes and in the dryer if you can. Again keep this up otherwise you will just get a re-infestation.

Kta7 · 28/02/2023 23:41

No need to wash everything in sight/fumigate the house www.lyclear.co.uk/can-head-lice-live-pillows-and-sheets

SimplySipping · 28/02/2023 23:48

Ugh. No need to comb every night, every 3 days or so is fine and easier to maintain for long enough to catch all the hatchlings www.gosh.nhs.uk/conditions-and-treatments/general-medical-conditions/lice/

DancingDaughter50 · 01/03/2023 07:05

@mrsfollowill

Both should be done in conjunction, combing and a chemical.

WeAreTheHeroes · 01/03/2023 07:09

Urgh. I couldn't just go to bed with that going on. Conditioner smothers live, it doesn't just loosen their grip.

WeAreTheHeroes · 01/03/2023 07:09

Lice even

picklemewalnuts · 01/03/2023 07:21

I used to do every other day, so if I missed one it was less of a problem.

You've got two generations- babies on D and adults on you, so you need to be really thorough for at least two weeks.

There will be eggs.

It's satisfying though when you realise all the ones you are catching are now just littles, so won't have laid any eggs.

Liceylicey · 01/03/2023 07:25

Oh I want something chemical to put on the buggers today

Jay felt a crawling behind my ear and manged to pick one out myself without a mirror or anything

it’s been years since we’ve had this 😩😩😩😩

So mumsnet - lice on the Boden catalogue 😭😂

Sorry about your lice problem though OP

I though it was lice hanging off model!

Fine combing is the way to clear them. Every day, without fail, with a fine nit comb from root to tips. Spread a cloth to catch any dislodged.

MrsPeas · 01/03/2023 07:41

I use nitty gritty comb and nitrid. Then I buy this tea tree repellant spray for their hair. I also wash with the cheap tea tree shampoo a couple times a week for a few weeks. I get it from quality save if that helps! It's really good too.

We've just had them and they are a nightmare!

DanseAvecLesLoup · 28/02/2023 22:38

Key stage 3

🤣
Another vote for thick white conditioner and a lice comb, every few days until gone. Works better than any chemical I tried.

yodayoga1 · 01/03/2023 07:53

Chemical always worked for me and the kids. Hedrin. Or you can pay a fortune for the special vacuum treatment. Friend of mine always swore by it and it seemed it work very well.

WeCome1 · 01/03/2023 07:56

Hedrin once always worked here. No need for combing afterwards.

WeCome1 · 01/03/2023 07:56

That should be ‘Hedrin Once’.

picklemewalnuts · 01/03/2023 08:53

You have to ask your pharmacist as lice in different areas are resistant to different treatments.

pizzaHeart · 01/03/2023 08:59

Anyone else's head itching just looking at them..?
@laundryschmaundry Me, glad that I haven’t seen this thread before bedtime yesterday!

SunThroughTheCloudsAt6am · 01/03/2023 10:11

That's an adult.

Mineral oil like Nit Not is confirmed to be as an effective treatment as insecticides and is much more pleasant for everyone to use (apart from the nits of course.

Hi OP how annoying is it! My DD has had them a couple times and her hair and my hair both nightmare to treat. Used a bottle each for first use due to length and thickness. Left over night. If you have a sleep cap or anything that helps. Washed the next day conditioned and combed whilst conditioner was in hairs. Then fine the conditioner /comb every second night and repeated the treatment a week later and again continued the comb/conditioner got a further week. I was so paranoid everything was in a high temp wash aswell xx
