I’ve applied for a new job, just had an interview invite and my current line manager is on the interview panel!

I’ve been in my role for less than a year, want to change because the hours are better for me and quite frankly the office dynamics are making for an uncomfortable working environment.

I haven’t told anyone I was looking to change jobs, and wasn’t planning on telling manager until I’d been offered a new job. I’m worried they’ll think I’m taking the piss having only been there a short time and them now having to (potentially) train someone new.

I’ll need to say something before just turning up to the interview, what do I say? I’ve only just had supervision, was asked if I was happy there, I said I was😅

Yes, I'd speak to them beforehand. Better hours are a good reason to want to change if you feel like you need to explain why without bringing up the weird dynamics.

God yes speak to them! They'll know you're a candidate, speak to them so interview isn't weird. I've interviewed and given new posts to folk in my team who haven't been with us long - if you're a better fir for new job it's all good.

Looking for a new job doesn’t necessarily mean you’re not happy in the one you have, the new job may be an area of interest to you, may have better working hours or be at a more convenient location. I’d just explain the new job offers you X or interests you because of Y.
