Just wondering how long they're taking? Just realised my child's one runs out soon

Just two weeks for me with a name change …received it around 10 days ago.

SallyWD · 01/03/2023 09:10

Ours was done in about 4 days. I was amazed!

raguragu · 01/03/2023 09:28

Super quick. Under a month

BramleyAppleHotCrossBun · 01/03/2023 09:31

Two DC done in December/January took a week. One later in January (just after they announced the price hike from Feb) took around 12 days.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 01/03/2023 09:37

Just had text saying DS’s has been approved, application done and documents sent last Tuesday, just need DD’s done now as she is travelling first!

54isanopendoor · 01/03/2023 09:39

Prices went up on 2nd Feg.

Ds applied for 1st adult passport.
Evening of 1st Feb.
Received within 10 days.

I applied for a renewal.
Same eve. 30mins later.
Passport office wrote to say: 'inadequate funds paid' as charging me 2nd Feb £.
I called & explained. Said reluctant to pay extra £7 (esp as Ds docs - original Birth Cert & my original Marriage cert - which I'd paid £5 extra to be returned securely, were NOT returned 'signed for' & were left by postie in front of door so got soaked & both now need replacing at a cost of nearly £40...)
Passport office 'forwarded it to complaints'.
It's now been stuck there for a month so far.
Office said: 'you always have to allow 10 weeks'

Dd's child passport.
Applied same evening.
No word at all.

It's a lottery, right enough!

I want to book our first ever holiday abroad but am scared to without Passports.

8 days for me with an online application, was very impressed.

Chipsahoy · 01/03/2023 09:47

About a week, still waiting on return of supporting documents two weeks later though

Wazzzzzuuuuuuup · 01/03/2023 09:48

About 3 weeks for us recently

1fluffydoodle · 01/03/2023 09:51

Renewed just after the price increase,
Adult Passport 8 days

Roussette · 01/03/2023 10:07

I can cope with 3 weeks. Mine was a simple adult renewal, old passport received by them the day after the application was acknowledged. Now it's gone quiet and I just wait....

Roussette · 01/03/2023 12:15

Ahhh... I have just heard my photo has been rejected too many wrinkles obviously Grin

How annoying. It was accepted on the site as 'good'. But here we go... another photo needed.

TheRosesAreInBloom · 01/03/2023 12:40

My supporting docs came through this morn…about 10 days after passport 👍🏻

Roussette · 01/03/2023 12:54

I've just done a 20 mile round trip to get a photo done, now submitted and should be OK.

I hope!

Last time we did our own and downloaded it. This time there seemed to be so many restrictions that we went to a professional. The light was so harsh, and the photos dreadful . Now we see them on the passports it looks like they’ve been manipulated. I wonder if they’re made to fit the space and it’s to do with the scanners at passport control.
The new plastic page joined to the paper book doesn’t look very robust. Hope it lasts 10 years.

That's interesting. I did my DH's in 2018 and I took one photo, uploaded it and it passed with flying colours. Perfect.

This time, no. 4 attempts, and the one I submitted which was eventually rejected after over a week, said there was shadow when there really was no shadow! The Photo shop said they've got really fussy, I think it's down to light

JenniferAllisonPhillipaSue · 01/03/2023 15:39

Two week turnaround on DH renewal (posted as form as online was insisting on re-certification due to gap in renewal). Five week turnaround on mine but that was because they lost my expired passport and had to write (!) to tell me to record it as list before they could proceed; then they wanted additional evidence to support my name change. Got there in the end 😊

Topseyt123 · 01/03/2023 15:39

Mine took about two weeks in the early part of last summer. DD3 was the same and she was renewing from a child passport to her first adult one.

We both did the online application forms and it was very easy. We took our own photos using our phones and they were accepted too.

sealon82 · 01/03/2023 15:40

Mine was quick, 10 days.

bananaboats · 01/03/2023 16:44

Around a week, done online

Boiledeggandtoast · 01/03/2023 17:01

My husband and I renewed ours on line just before the price increase (so in January). Applied late on Friday afternoon, all done and dusted with new passports in our hands by the following Thursday. Very impressed.

How frustrating!!

girlladywoman · 06/03/2023 14:40

We sent off two (separate passport offices). My partner's arrived in less than a week and mine less than two weeks.

When uploaded my photo (taken in a booth) it said the colour of my face is to similar to the background. I applied anyway because it was done in a professional booth and there wasn't much more I could so. They accepted it

BonjourPetitPois · 06/03/2023 14:50

Child renewal - 5 weeks and counting 🙄 Took 3 weeks or so between the passport being delivered by RM and them logging it as received on their system. Did apply a couple of days before prices went up so maybe we were unlucky and hit a rush on applications. Good job we're not going away till August!
