Cannelloni pasta tubes

Anyone who has bought these recently can tell me which supermarket chain?

I can't seem to find them in store or online. I don't think it has anything to do with the current egg / salad etc shortages as other pasta shapes are in stock but has cannelloni gone out of fashion or something?

It has been harder to get recently, but it does pop up in Sainsbury. The width of shelf space is much reduced. I made one on Friday.

StroppyTop · 27/02/2023 16:34

Bought them recently in Sainsburys after not seeing them for years.

Then remembered what a massive faff they are to fill.

Topbird29 · 27/02/2023 16:38

If can't find any, can you not soften some lasagne sheets and roll into a tube shape and fill (I guess lying it down to fill)

Our Sainsbury's has cannelloni tubes. Use a piping bag to fill them - still a faff, but worth it I think!

Zuffe · 27/02/2023 16:53

I used to find them hard to fill, then I changed the method. I put the cooked mixture into a long baking dish adjacent to another baking dish. I hold each tube at the so that the end is flush with the side of the dish. Draw down the dish a wide spoon that funnels the mixture in, then lift and place into the next dish. If needed a small square of cheese can be placed onto the end to close it off.

You can make an alternative version using crepes, I prefer it in fact

fluffylampbear · 27/02/2023 16:56

ocado have them

GuyFawkesDay · 27/02/2023 16:56

Thank you, they've been elusive recently!

I'm picturing rolled up pancakes stuffed with a nutella and marshmallow mixture sprinkled with lemon juice. Probably not what you meant though...

We bought around 10 boxes when Lidl had their "Italian week" last year. The only other place is a small italian independent deli but they cost their weight in gold.

StackBlocks · 27/02/2023 18:44

Morrisons do them. Asda used to but I haven’t seen them since the first Covid lockdown!

Haveawordwithyourusband · 27/02/2023 18:56

Yeah got some in Morrisons today, only £1.10 too !

DevantMaJardin · 27/02/2023 18:57

I very specifically looked in Tesco last week and they didn't even have a space on the shelf for them anymore so don't waste your time in there.

Vinorosso74 · 27/02/2023 18:58

I find Morrisons are usually reliable for having them. Sainsbury's varies.

SparkleSpangle · 27/02/2023 19:03

Morrisons sell them. Haven't found them anywhere else for years. You can use fresh lasagne sheets rolled up as an alternative, easier to fill too.

QueenMabs · 27/02/2023 19:05

I tried to find some too. I love spinach and ricotta cannelloni.

I find the best method is in a large freezer bag with the corner cut off.

Whats the recipe with crepes it does ring a bell!! Far in the recesses of my mind.

Try Sainsbury! 👍🏻

I make a version with tortillas. I also make a roundy lasagne using tortillas which fit in the roundy dish. Perfect!

I'm a heathen I know....

woodhill · 27/02/2023 19:37

Yes, they are really hard to find

Used to stock them in Sainsbury's

woodhill · 27/02/2023 19:39

Spinach and ricotta and fill them with a piping bag

soleilblue · 27/02/2023 19:39

Big sainsburys does all the weird shapes. Linguine and all that jazz.

JamMakingWannaBe · 27/02/2023 19:56

I went looking in Morrison's last weekend. Empty shelf. I made lasagne instead.

BramleyAppleHotCrossBun · 27/02/2023 19:58

I get them in Sainsbury's semi regularly. Never had a problem with supply.

Shmithecat2 · 27/02/2023 20:00

Make it with fresh lasagne sheets instead.
