Anyone been to Dopamine Land in London?

My DS 3 has had a spate of illnesses recently so I plan to take him out of nursery for the day and do something fun as a treat

I was thinking natural history museum as he loves looking at the animals and have also read about Dopamine Land which is a short walk away.

It's not cheap but we rarely have big days out so I'd like to do something a bit different that he'll enjoy

Has anyone been with kids and did they enjoy it? I can't work out if it's more for adults or children!!

Yes. It’s good, but pricy for that it is. I don’t think a 3 year old would like it much, TBH.

Friends of ours went with DC age 8 and 12

they said they couldn't spend very long, as in, it doesn't take long, and you can have a pillow fight at home! Honestly, the parents were more impressed than the girls because they like the technology involved.

We wouldn't have gone anyway - IME these pop up things are a bit hit and miss.

Bloody hell that looks awful, but I have adhd so way too much going on there!

MrsTerryPratchett · 27/02/2023 20:12

I'd skip that (ADHD here as well!) and go to the Science Museum. Or an art gallery. Why pay when there's world-class free stuff?

Crinkle77 · 27/02/2023 22:26

£20 for 30-50 minutes? 😲😲😲😲😲😲

SwimmingwiththeFishes · 28/02/2023 10:20

Thanks all for the views. I appreciate it's expensive but I'm happy to pay for something a bit different and we will also be going to the natural history museum too so a nice mix in the day

My friend is taking her toddler today after we talked about it so will wait and see what she says before deciding

He loves lights, colour and things with are quite sensory which is why I thought it looked good (albeit expensive)!

If you’re going to spend out, maybe get a pass for wonderlab at the science museum, the year long one is quite good value for money and it’s fab!

SwimmingwiththeFishes · 28/02/2023 10:38

Thank you @Excited101 I'll absolutely look into this

He's had such a terrible time of it with his health that I just want a lovely day out. I'm not bothered about whether an experience is good value for money at this point-just that he enjoys himself and gets to act his age for a change!!

You could look at Twist Museum - similar cost but sounds like you get more for your money (I haven’t been to either).

Can I suggest Playbase at the National Army Museum which is much cheaper and really fun for this age.

Wonderlab is great but I’d say better for primary age kids, although a 3 yo would enjoy it I’m sure.

There is also The Garden in the basement of the Science Museum which is perfect for pre schoolers (lots of water play so bring a spare top!), and free.

And the Diana Playground at Hyde Park if the weather is ok, near the Science/Natural History museums.

@minipie thank you soooo much!

What wonderful ideas! I did look at the twist museum but only opted for dopamine land as it was near everything else I was planning on doing and I hate Oxford street area!
But you're right, it does look like more for your money!

Army museum play base also looks awesome and I would never have considered bringing extra clothes for science museum garden so a sincere THANK YOU
