Hello:)

We are desperate for some advice here.

Me, my partner and our baby currently live in the SE. However, we're facing a lot of barriers when thinking of building and raising a family here. We face silly and unaffordable house prices, higher crime rates, a declining town and not a lot going on especially for children. We are aware of the nice parts but unfortunately personally for us the bad outweighs the good. We are looking to move out of the SE and go North, a big contender is Edinburgh it seems to tick a lot of our boxes but although we've done so much research it would benefit us to hear from people that have made a move like this and where you have gone or if you live in a place that can provide us with what we're missing we'd love to hear where you are!! We'd be so grateful if you could give us some info or advice it would help us massively! We both work in education so work shouldn't be a problem we just would like somewhere safe to raise a family with good schools that has a bit more going for it and is affordable to live.

TIA

Can I suggest Sheffield? South areas like Nether Edge, meersbrook, ecclesall and mill houses (depending on budget). Great schools, Peak District on doorstep and amazing family feel culture. I grew up there and felt so lucky. Best of city, music and culture but learnt to hike, climb and bike in the Peak. I’d love to move back. Probably the most expensive but of Sheffield but should compare ok to the South East.

Crime is everywhere
Stabbing a are everywhere

Even smaller rural towns yiu get daytime stabbings

You only get less in smaller towns as there are fewer people - the stabbing rate per 100 people may well be the same

Not sure if you've taken the time to read the thread and all of my comments. I'd be confused if you have because I openly say that I'm aware there is crime everywhere I'm not living under a rock. I'm talking from my own extensive research which shows categorically there are plenty of places that are safer to live than where I do now. I don't expect to move anywhere and have a bubble surrounding it that means no crime happens and no one ever gets stabbed. Its upsetting you feel the need to unhelpfully comment something that I already know and I have clearly shown I am aware of but thankyou anyway.

I hated the south east, I've moved to Somerset. I love it here.

Thankyou very much for your response!:) I've heard lovely things about Somerset. I'm glad you love it there!

If you fancied going North West then Lancaster is a lovely city. Close to the sea and the Lake District. Easy train to Manchester. Surrounded by lovely countryside but enough going on even though it's a small city. Two grammar schools if that's an option for secondary or Ripley is a good secondary comprehensive. There's a big college and the universities for work opportunities.

Re: Newcastle - Gosforth, Jesmond and Tynemouth are all lovely. Lived in Jesmond for 4 years and was very happy.
