Simply as this , just got this lovely email first thing in the morning .

is it just me or has anybody else been affected too?

really fed up with everything going up , just can’t keep up .

i’m going to take her off one morning .
I had just increased her hours since she had the 30 hours ..but I’m gonna have to reverse back as it was ..

my wage is the same 😞

Nope, 10% here for two kids and no pay rise.
I don’t blame them, they have to heat and feed the kids and pay their staff, but it doesn’t stop it stinging!

however, they could turn down the heat a touch, they sometimes have to open the windows!

GoodChat · 27/02/2023 10:43

We haven't had an increase since last summer and that was brought forward so not expecting one for a while

Moveforward · 27/02/2023 10:53

If they have employees on minimum wage.rates that's going up by almost 10 percent very soon.

We've not gotten a letter yet but I know it's coming. Can't wait until September! honestly nursery fees just puts me off wanting another child.

Orchid90 · 27/02/2023 15:28

@NowAAT same! Well it’s not like it’s just putting me off, I genuinely cannot afford it. Unfortunately my family is not even in this country and my partner only has his mum now who still works . We rely on nursery a lot and It’s about 4000£ a year , before the 30hours was 7200 for a year . I rather use the money I’ll save to take my daughter on holiday tbh .

Shinyandnew1 · 27/02/2023 15:35

It’s crappy but was always going to be the case with energy bill rises and rises to minimum wage which many nursery workers earn, just to keep going. Loads of nurseries around me (South East) have closed completely.

Orchid90 · 27/02/2023 15:38

@Writeandroll i completely understand they have cost to cover, it’s just frustrating that our income are staying the same .
i am a nurse in ED and I have done so many nights and extra shifts to pay nursery . I had to take few weeks off work actually , which im ashamed tbh . I thought I was ill instead it turned out I was just overworked and soo exhausted from all the night shifts and extra shifts . So I sort of promise myself I’ll have to slow down and just accept to be skint until she goes to school ..now 12% more skint 🤣

Its inevitable unfortunately, with minimum wage and energy bills going up. There is nurseries that are struggling financially themselves.

Well, quite. I think we all would. But paid employees require a fair wage, pension, etc. A safe nursery building also requires adequate heat, repairs and equipment.

All this is going up.

LillyBugg · 27/02/2023 15:48

Minimum wage going up 9.7% and I can guarantee that the nursery isn't seeing the same increase in their funding that they receive for the so called 'free' childcare hours that they offer via the local authority. Unfortunately it's inevitable. Early years is critically underfunded and I'm sure post April we will all see many settings closed due to no longer being financially viable.

It is shit OP but a rising cost like everything else. If you feel strongly about it then support causes which are lobbying government to properly support the early years sector.

Rainraingoaway21 · 27/02/2023 15:49

All nurseries and pre-schools are having to put fees up. It's the only they'll survive.

Rainraingoaway21 · 27/02/2023 15:50

*the only way they'll survive that should say.

Get another job that pays more. In healthcare isn't temping/locuming the most highly paid?

There is a labour shortage so see what you can get.

IMO a quality nursery absolutely should cost, and should put their costs up as and when needed to maintain the quality of care. Yes it's financially tough but I'd rather pay and know my DC are having a good experience. Not to mention the staff work bloody hard and deserve to be paid more IMO

BarbaraofSeville · 27/02/2023 15:53

They've done well to 'only' increase it by that amount tbh.

NMW up about 10%
Energy costs up 2/3/400%
Food up 20/30/50%+

Increases in interest rates if the business has borrowed money.

Other costs like insurance, business rates etc increasing.

marshmallowsforbreakfast · 27/02/2023 15:54

I don't know why some posters are suggesting get a higher paid job. It doesn't matter what your income is, 10% on top of an already very expensive bill is a lot. The current childcare system isn't sustainable as is. Many parents in skilled jobs, such as teaching and nursing etc spend nearly as much as they earn on nursery fees.

Ifeellikeateenageragain · 27/02/2023 15:55

Ours is going up 12% and we don't get the 30 free hours for a long time yet so it's the way it's gotta be 🤷

Yes but the OPs bill is already massively reduced now she has the funded hours. It's going up 12% on the lower amount.

Wow.

Why didn’t I think of getting a better job…!!!

No ones disagreeing that the costs should go up, but it’s okay to be able to vent about it. It’s shit and it costs money. I’m not about to suggest they starve my children or keep them in unsafe conditions!

With no sick pay, pension, holiday pay, guaranteed hours?

soleilblue · 27/02/2023 19:25

Yeah ours is going up. They better be giving the staff a decent pay rise.

sunnydayys · 27/02/2023 19:44

Found out today my nursery increase will be over 20% as they are also getting rid of the slight reduction you could get for doing 4 days per week.
I was expecting 10% but not 22-23%.
I'm self employed and my wages will drop this year so whilst I appreciate living wage and energy etc all going up this still feels like an awful lot with just 1 month notice.

They will probably still be on minimum wage, but at least this will have gone from £9.50 to £10.42.
