Best non sugar free cordial

newjobnewstartihope · 26/02/2023 20:02

I need to start drinking more fluids but hate water by itself . I also have major ibs which is irritated by sweeteners which annoyingly most cordials now contain
Can anyone recommend a good cordial that's not sugar free and you only need a drop of to flavour your water? Thanks in advance

I did make my own lemon, easier than I thought. Lemon juice (I have cheated and used bottled) warm it gently, add sugar and some water, dissolve the sugar, taste and bottle. I’ve made lime too, added mint or ginger. And in the spring elderflower.

Not quite cordial, but could you do a child’s infusion of tea? I think there are some teabags which are designed for cold brewing but I just use a standard jasmine green tea and like that.

Bottle Green elderflower is my favourite. I get through 2 bottles a week. They also do a ginger one which is lovely.

bettybadger · 26/02/2023 21:48

Frobisher's cordials are sweetener-free - the lemon and mint one is delicious. Waitrose used to sell them but now I think you have to go online.

Vimto, but you have to get the one that’s sold in other countries, not the UK one. I’ve been told it’s used to break fast in Ramadan. I’m not sure if that’s true, but I’ve heard it called Arab Vimto.

I get mine either from a local independent shop (for local people) or online from MyJam. I’ve been impressed by their customer service. I only buy Vimto and get a few bottles at a time so they must think I’m nuts.

I drink gallons of herbal tea could you try that? Peppermint, rooibios, camomile, lemon and ginger... and don't even get me started on the wonderous range of Yogi Teas!

VenusClapTrap · 26/02/2023 22:07

Waitrose orange, and their apple and mango one are still sugar instead of sweetener. Or they were the last time I bought them.

Another vote for Roses Lime Cordial - just checked my bottle for you & no sweeteners, just sugar & lime juice. I hate water too & (since my first pregnancy when I was SO thirsty) take a travel bottle (like you buy from Boots) everywhere in my handbag with Roses in it, so I can add it to water anywhere (as I don't like fizzy drinks or water).

My mum tells me she's convinced it's stopped me getting scurvy as a grumpy teen.

If you ever visit France, the Tesseire brand cordials are brilliant. I always stock up when I’m there.

dotdotdotdash · 26/02/2023 22:41

They used to be available in Waitrose but I think Brexit or sugar-tax put paid to that!

MurderAtTheBeautyPageant · 26/02/2023 22:48

My Waitrose stocks Tessiere but only the the berry and vanilla flavour. The vanilla is a weird flavour addition in my opinion. It'd be perfect without it.

Drywhitefruitycidergin · 26/02/2023 22:51

If you find the non sugar free one I love teissiere.
Otherwise have a look at the sainsburys high-juice ones. (Not 100% sure they are completely sweetener free but you do pay sugar tax on them)

aibutohavethisusername · 26/02/2023 22:53

Tessiere.

Pythonesque · 26/02/2023 22:59

Also try just adding lemon or lime juice to water, without sweetening it. I need to go back to doing that more. But absolutely agree that it is such a shame you can't get the high juice cordials without artificial sweeteners any more. All they needed to do was increase the recommended dilution rates and they were very good.

ElfDragon · 26/02/2023 23:04

Teisseire. Expensive but good. lots of different flavours.

ocado have a couple of flavours, and Waitrose sometimes. Amazon have a few more.

I bizarrely found a load of flavours on a random delicatessen site a couple of years ago - the pink grapefruit was amazing. Haven’t found it since.

ODFOx · 26/02/2023 23:06

Belvoir lime and mint. Just add water for a refreshing drink, or white rum for a relaxing fake mojito.

myfavouritemutant · 26/02/2023 23:11

Belvoir - usually blackcurrant flavour.
I really don’t get on well with artificial sweeteners and suspect it’s only a matter of time before science discovers they’re not as great as assumed at the moment anyway. Why the fuck I can’t just be trusted to have drinks with sugar in moderation I don’t know.

BuzzBeeEmoticon · 26/02/2023 23:13

This is a bit different but I really recommend the Whittards instant teas. You can have them hot or cold and they are amazing! I just got a blackcurrant and elderflower one and it’s lovely. I don’t know if you have any outlet stores new year but they are much cheaper there if you do. Worth it either way.

I can’t have sweeteners either so am constantly on the hunt for sweetener and stevia free stuff!

Nat6999 · 26/02/2023 23:17

Tesseire cordials are sold by Ocado.

MurderAtTheBeautyPageant · 26/02/2023 23:39

this UK based company seem to sell all the varieties of Teisseire. I might try a couple of new flavours.
