After school club finishing times

If you have kids at primary school, what time do their after school clubs run until and how much are they?

So most offer something a bit later than 4.30 for less money than mine?

I'm not sure it's most, and those that are cheaper are usually run in house using school staff like TAs to help keep the costs down. Your club is an external provider, so costs are likely going to be higher as they usually have more to pay out, such as the cost of hiring the hall. You also don't say what the activities are, so there could also be an increased cost in providing the different activities.

I would say the majority of clubs that are run by external providers and finish later than 4.30 are going to be charging more than £10.

SnowAndFrostOutside · 27/02/2023 10:17

We have after school sports and choir and they finish between 4.30 to 5. Then there's childcare after school club and that finishes at 6pm. The childcare one can pick up from the sports clubs.

Ours is run by school and is a little bit cheaper but not by much. We use tax free childcare for it too.

Youcancallmeirrelevant · 27/02/2023 10:22

£5 for school run after school club until 5:30pm

£6 for a specific sport activity run by outside sport company until 4:30

Youcancallmeirrelevant · 27/02/2023 10:22

The cost of breakfast club and after school club was one of the main things we looked at when picking primary schools

Redlocks30 · 27/02/2023 10:25

We offer hobby clubs until 4/4.30-they are low cost and either run by staff or by external coaches. We don’t have any after school ‘club’ held on school grounds though. Parents who work use local childminders.

thebestsellingshow · 27/02/2023 10:34

Ours is 6pm at £7. They get a light tea included. This does DD for her evening meal but DS sees it more as a snack!

catsandkid · 27/02/2023 10:37

Ours can run up to 6pm. Includes a light tea and snack.

Cost is £12.30.

I usually pick up at 5:15pm instead, and that costs only £8.71, including the tea.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 27/02/2023 10:44

£18 per term 3pm til 4pm

Tdcp · 27/02/2023 10:48

DDs after school club is £2 and runs 3-4pm. The private ones are £10-£15 and run from 3-6pm with school pick ups.

WreckTangled · 27/02/2023 12:03

So jealous of all these cheap ones! Grateful we have one at all though, it’s only been going a few years.

Isyesterdaytomorrowtoday · 27/02/2023 12:11

3:15-6pm £12.50 inc snack

MinnieMountain · 27/02/2023 12:34

£2 for school run, £3 for private. They run 3-4pm or 4:15 if the children need to get changed.

ScreamingTree · 27/02/2023 12:45

Run by the school, 3-6pm, costs £12.50 per day including a snack (something like soup or pasta). We can use childcare vouchers/tax free childcare.
My DC love it and would go every day if they could.

MaggieFS · 27/02/2023 12:51

I think it hugely depends on the nature of the activity...

At DC's infant school:

Everyday after school club until 5.30 is £12 but it's wraparound with minimum staff ratios and entirely self-led. If they just want to sit and watch a film, they can. Staff are obviously qualified, but low-ish level qualifications (sorry not trying to be rude, it's a fact).

Also 2x/week sports & music extra curricular activities £10/session 3-4pm but these are like a lesson with specialist staff.

I don't think the two are comparable.

cocksstrideintheevening · 27/02/2023 12:55

They can stay for homework club which finishes at 4.15 5 or actual ASC which finishes at 6, £15 and they get a snack.

SnowAndFrostOutside · 27/02/2023 12:58

@MaggieFS the first type you mentioned. The staff doesn’t need to be qualified. Just DBS checked. I am thinking of getting DC1 to apply when she turns 16. There aren’t many local jobs and many of the staff in our primary school are ex students who are at sixth form college or secondary.

DraconianDen · 27/02/2023 13:00

Run by a private company on school grounds, think it’s £6.50 for a morning session (7.30am until school starts) or £12.50 for an afternoon (until 6pm). They have their own separate premises on the school grounds and do loads of activities with the children . Also run a holiday club for around £35 a day.

Periornot · 27/02/2023 13:35

@whinge, totally get that outside provision is understandably more expensive. It's things like football, karate, basic arts/craft.

I wish there was an option of a later club or a generic club or even a club that picked up from school. It's tricky with more than one kid as they like different things - a generic club/external club pick up would be so helpful with that.

When they started, school said there was no demand for a breakfast club. One of the parents found someone who ran one at a school nearby or something and he walked the kids to school after- there was def demand. Sadly he had to stop as has long term issues after catching covid.

School is good, so swings and roundabouts on the club front I guess.

My school currently runs a breakfast club but it is running at a loss and I suspect will have to close soon. By the time the staffing and food has been paid for, there simply isn’t enough uptake to warrant keeping it running.

WiltingLobelia · 27/02/2023 13:40

Until 5 pm then the option to have dinner at 5.30-6.00 pm Clubs are 'free' (or at least no extra cost- fee paying school) and the dinner costs £5.00.

ThreeRingCircus · 27/02/2023 13:50

6pm and it's £10 a session. Lots of craft activities and the children can play outside if they want to. They get a decent snack (sandwich and a yoghurt, or toasted bagel and some jelly) but do still eat a bowl of cereal or a piece of toast and some fruit when they get home.
