Thinking of getting one of these to make lattes.
Also interested in how much the pods cost?
Anyone got one?

If you want lattes youre better off with a proper machine, than one of the instant pod ones. The milk pods are very strange tasting at times. But, I have a dolce gusto for when i just cant be bothered, they cost about £4.50 for 8 drinks, but the amount is very small, i used to have a tassimo but refer the dolce gusto. I also have a delonghi bean to cup with milk steamer espresso machine, and it is amazing, proper fresh coffee and real milk, it was more expensive, but so worth it.

BaconAndAvocado · 26/02/2023 15:40

I don’t drink “normal” coffee, only lattes and cappuccinos.
Will have a look at the Dulce Gusto machines.

Sorry, my reply may be somewhat confusing, the proper delonghi machine is better for lattes etc than the pod ones.

LadyLaLaa · 26/02/2023 15:51

Definitely recommend making proper latté and another vote for Delonghi too.

PurpleWisteria1 · 26/02/2023 15:51

nespresso with attached milk warmer / frothier. Worth brilliantly and you get the pods from tesco (Starbucks brand)

JustFrustrated · 26/02/2023 15:58

I switched from a delonghi bean to cup to my Nespresso with a milk warmer/frother.

Love it. Use it constantly unlike the bean to cup. And that is as someone who used to, before the days of Costa, run a coffee van.

NightOwlNotEarlyBird · 26/02/2023 16:25

If you're just starting out/not fussy and want something quick then Nespresso is probably a safe bet. You can get compatible pods from other suppliers/brands (less options with Vertuo I believe).

If you have the time and think you'll want to explore more options in the future, I'd suggest getting an espresso machine with an attached milk wand/steamer. Morphy Richards and Breville have affordable entry level ones.

I also only drink milk-based coffee and much prefer using an espresso machine. There's more options and versatility.

Themildannnoyanceofsmaug · 26/02/2023 17:01

I use reusable pods in my dolce gusto machine, just fill with coffee on choice, and tap the grounds out and wash when done. A pack of 3 cost about £5 and have been going strong for years.

I warm (and then quickly hand whisk) milk in the microwave, takes seconds.

The milk pods have a bit of an odd taste as mentioned by pp.

Yes, this. I've had a few of the machines that take pods. The Dolce Gusto ones use milk pods and they're rank. The Nespresso one I had heated up your own milk but it's not the same as what you'd get in a coffee shop and neither of them heat the water for the coffee up enough for me.

The only way you'll get 'proper' lattes and cappuccinos is to use an espresso machine and a milk wand that steams the milk as the previous poster says.

Lavazza A Modo Mio with a milk frother.

Lovebeingamummy2 · 26/02/2023 17:41

I absolutely love my dulce gusto and my favourite drink is a latte it's so quick and easy no mess no annoyance and ready in seconds I couldn't be without it

tobee · 26/02/2023 17:53

We have a tassimo and agree the milk pods are rubbish; sweetened and long life. I do my own milk or just have white americano

covetingthepreciousthings · 26/02/2023 18:00

If you're only wanting lattes and cappuccinos, could I suggest you get a milk frother? Personally I use the Hotel Chocolat velvetiser for lattes but you can get cheaper versions.

I didn’t realise you can make lattes with a velvetiser. Do Hotel Chocolat do latte pods?

We have this and love it:

www.delonghi.com/en-gb/en650-b-gran-lattissima-nespresso-coffee-machine/p/EN650.B

Super quick and easy to use, just attach the milk frother we, pick what type of coffee you want and press the button. Machine does it all.

I personally think it makes decent coffee (although I'm pretty easy to please, maybe if you're more fussy about your coffee you might prefer a proper machine / frother)

You can use Nespresso pods or generics.

Hotel chocolat do a pod machine, it takes Nespresso style pods. They do their own, I've just replaced my old Nespresso with the hotel chocolate and it's lovely. I'm not that keen on their coffee though, I use the Littles pods in French vanilla from Tesco they make a lovely latte.

Lavendersparkles22 · 26/02/2023 19:21

I use the velvetiser for latte and mocha. You can buy chocolate coffee sachets from hotel chocolat, or I just chuck in milk, good instant coffee and whatever flavouring/syrup of choice. Low hassle, easy to clean and I don't like pod milky coffee either.

Onynx · 26/02/2023 19:53

I've been looking into machines for the same reason- our Nespresso died not so long ago. I've come to the conclusion that the Sage Bambino plus is the best machine for lattes, cappuccinos etc. Have a look on YouTube for videos/recommendations etc.

pastypirate · 27/02/2023 01:43

I've got a delonghi bean to cup and 2 Dolce gustos.

I far prefer the DG they are so easy and the milk pod taste doesn't bother me.

I buy all the coffee pods in aldi and lidl it's I think £2.50ish for 8 drinks I wouldn't bother with the nestle ones though I do get the Starbucks and costa ones when they are on offer.

Aldi also do chai latte pods which are lush.

You can buy the pods from Amazon sone random brand they are cheap but rank. Only the aldi ones are nice imo

I have a Sage Bambino Plus and love it. It’s a small machine, but feature rich for its size and price point. It’s simple to use, will steam milk excellently automatically, so you don’t need to learn to texture milk manually if you don’t want to and it can adapt to either freshly ground or pre-ground coffee depending on the baskets used.

It’s worth considering that it doesn’t come with an integrated grinder, so if you want to grind your own coffee then you’ll need to invest more money into an espresso capable grinder, but if you are only going to drink milky drinks then the difference between freshly ground and pre-ground is really minimal.

Spanglybangles · 27/03/2023 19:07

Delonghi Magnifica bean to cup here. Gone from a non coffee drinker to daily lattes, totally converted. Use Lavazza beans or sometimes Starbucks/Costa beans. Delicious.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 27/03/2023 19:19

To avoid the waste of pods I make double-strength coffee in my drip machine then use a stick blender to froth milk I heat in the microwave. Works great! I pour about 1/3 coffee into my latte cup and fill with hot foamy milk. 😋😋😋

LadyPenelope68 · 07/05/2023 09:29

Buy a proper Espresso machine (DeLonghi are a good brand) and you can make whatever coffee types you like and also hit chocolates. Way, way better than pod machines (disgusting milk) and much cheaper than buying all the pods.

Sage Bambino is a fantastic machine!
