Would you eat a pizza that had been frozen that said do not freeze?!

So a "would you eat" thread! Yeah!

I bought some stuffed crust cheese and tomato pizzas from Morrisons then we ended up going out so I put in freezer

I've defrosted to eat tonight but it says do not freeze on the label... would you now cook and eat?! I can't see why it would say that as pizas usually fine in freezer...

If it's just cheese and tomato, sure. Base might come out wrong texture but worth a go.

TangledWebOfDeception · 25/02/2023 17:25

It'll be because some or all of the elements will have been previously frozen.

I'd still eat it.

Wazzzzzuuuuuuup · 25/02/2023 17:25

It may have been previously frozen in the manufacturing process.

I would absolutely eat it, just make sure it is piping hot

Yes. Worst case is the texture might not be quite right but probably totally fine.

WhereAreMyAirpods · 25/02/2023 17:26

Definitely. It'll be a texture thing.

TangledWebOfDeception · 25/02/2023 17:26

Oh didn't notice the stuffed crust. The cheese might be a bit weird, that's all.

Again, I'd still happily eat it.

MaggieFS · 25/02/2023 17:27

Yes. I'd assume it would just be a bit soggy.

LouLou198 · 25/02/2023 17:27

Yes I would!

Youdoyoubabe · 25/02/2023 17:27

Yes.

Luredbyapomegranate · 25/02/2023 17:27

It’s fine to eat, it will just be a taste quality thing with the dough.

DrinkingAllTheGin · 25/02/2023 17:27

It will be the yeast. It may not be freezer stable and may not poof as much.
Pizza will be fine. I would eat it.

bellac11 · 25/02/2023 17:28

Often they say not to freeze something because once cooked the texture will be compromised.

PleasantZen · 25/02/2023 17:29

Yes but maybe not if it had chicken on it.

Randomuser9876 · 25/02/2023 17:29

Thanks all, I couldn't see why not from a safety point of view.

Just worried I was missing something.

Dd is about to die of hunger so I'll bung in the oven x

Yes, 'unlikely to cause me any ill effects' is what I'd think.

TangledWebOfDeception · 25/02/2023 17:30

Now I want pizza. Angry Angry

AlannaOfTrebond · 25/02/2023 17:46

I routinely freeze fresh pizzas that say do not freeze. I've never bothered to defrost one though, they cook fine from frozen.

OhNoNotThatAgain · 25/02/2023 17:50

I agree, it is likely to be a texture thing, and not that it would be unsafe to eat.

BarbaraofSeville · 25/02/2023 17:50

Of course, why not? Just about all 'do not freeze' instructions, along with 'use within 8 weeks' or 'freeze on day of purchase' is code for 'throw this perfectly safe food away and buy some more'.

<whispers> nothing bad happens even when you do things like defrost and refreeze meat or eat rice that's been at room temperature overnight.

NoInvitesEver · 25/02/2023 17:57

It's fine.

LakeTiticaca · 25/02/2023 17:58

Absolutely I would
I often freeze stuff that says not suitable for freezing. Sometimes the texture is altered slightly but I'm still alive 😉

Randomuser9876 · 25/02/2023 17:58

DH reports that pizza is fine. Even crust as normal.

Yeah, hate throwing food away so freeze everything!

Blimey... we had this issue earlier!

We bought a Franco Manco ( important) pizza a while ago and I put it straight into the freezer.

We fancied it for lunch today and so my husband looked at the instructions and it said 'Do not freeze!'

I thought that was bonkers and said to just add a few minutes to the cooking time.
But I googled this very question.

It turns out that pizzas from a named chain , often put the 'do not freeze' proviso on as they are worried about the flavour /texture being a little altered , thus possibly reducing their gold standard but it will be perfectly edible.

Don't worry.
