MRI scan for constant unexplained viruses...??

I did post a while ago in health and no replies...this issue is with DH, fatigue, on and off, burning sensation in groin gland area, gp has refused to do a letter for a private mri scan as says it wont find anything, and has said there is nothing more he can do or suggest. Blood tests and physical examination have revealed absolutely nothing at all....had 3 lots of tests and examinations in past year. I have read that an mri scan would be able to detect a viral condition. so fed up with gp advising DH to bed rest and take paracetemol, he is 59 and in general good health, exercises a lot usually...any ideas anyone...??

I'm not sure about a scan. I have had recurring shingles and nothing showed in an mri scan.

It was diagnosed by the rash, bloods normal. Could be shingles if burning pain? It sometimes doesn't have a rash.

Mri won't spot a virus but could sources of inflammation. However would that not be indicated by a blood test?

Ok....absolutely nothing found in blood tests, no inflamation etc....sometimes he has it for a few days and it goes away, now had it for over 3 weeks, fatigue has gone but the groin pain still there....gp says its a total mystery and has no idea who to refer onto....very frustrating !

How's his back? Arthritis and SI pain can refer round into the groin area. Ankylosing spondylitis would cause fatigue and presents in men more than women.

No back issues at all....usually comes to my yoga class 3 times a week. Can't attend with me at present.

You can get a private MRI without a referral can't you?

No. not for certain body areas such as groin, they want a letter. local pvt hospital will do this area for £199 inc report.
