Co parenting age rating films

My children are at their dad's this weekend and I have had a text from my 11 year old telling me that her and my just turned 8 year old are watching the 12 rated Harry Potter films. Not bothered about the 11 year old but the 8 year old has been having to sleep with light on for three weeks because she has been having nightmares - which he knows about. I'm fuming, but I'm guessing I have to just suck it up!

I would text him/call him however you communicate to tell him you shouldn't be showing those age ratings. Whether he'll listen after that is another matter though I guess...

You can't interfere the age ratings are for parental guidance only when watching at home. It sucks and its annoying but contacting him is likely to just make things worse if he knows there is already a sleep issue but does it anyway.

Watching the 12 HP this far away from bedtime is unlikely to have an issue on sleep anyway as plenty of time to process it during the day a bit different if they watched it just before bed.

I think the Harry Potters are a 12a so it's down to the adult/parent.

I think I would mention it without mentioning the age rating - more in a "Do you think it might be a bit scary for DD, as she's been having nightmares lately" way. Hopefully he's just been a bit thoughtless and thought "kids like Harry Potter, I'll stick that on" and hasn't put 2 and 2 together about the bad dreams.

Ime this is the downside of younger dc having older siblings. And likely an exh who wants to appear to be the cool parent..

It doesn’t matter whether it’s a PG or a 15, it’s still up to the parent anyway. The ratings are purely advisory when it comes to films at home.

Don’t be silly, my kids school allow them to watch 12 films 🤷‍♀️ it’s a primary school, you can take them out if you don’t agree but only one kid ever gets taken out of my sons class. When they are at his house he gets to parent how he chooses same for you.
