How many hours sleep a night do you need?

I need around 6 or 7 hours sleep a night, last night I was asleep by 9.30 which admittedly is a bit early for me, lo and behold I was wide awake at 4.15. I finally gave up and got up at 5.30. I'm working today so I know I'll be tired early tonight which means I'll be awake early again tomorrow. DH can sleep for 10+ hours a night if he's not working. I need to break the cycle of waking so early but find it difficult to stay awake late on an evening.

I need 8 minimum in total (sometimes it’s split up throughout the day/night)

LetThemEatTurnips · 24/02/2023 06:47

7-8 is ideal for me.

I love going to bed at about 10 and waking at about 5:30 as I get a long morning to do things I like.

Sirzy · 24/02/2023 06:47

I generally bet less than 6 and it’s broken sleep.

7 hours and I wake feel refreshed especially if less broken.

over 8 and I wake feeling groggy

About 6, I'm older though and apparently you sleep less as you get older

specialk9 · 24/02/2023 06:53

I need at least 6. I like to have 7. I aim for 11pm - 6ami sh. 8 is nice. If I ever get more than 8 (rarely) I feel awful. Like I've overdosed on night nurse!

EVHead · 24/02/2023 06:55

7 is perfect for me.

Could you do something to prevent yourself nodding off so early? Go for a walk? Get ready for bed but don’t go to bed yet? Play a game on your phone?

I have a sweet spot of falling asleep between 10.30 and 11 - any earlier and I’m awake too early. Any later and I wake up at the same time as if I went to sleep at 10.30!

MistyMooninabluesky · 24/02/2023 06:56

At least 8, preferably 10.

HaroldTheStallion · 24/02/2023 06:56

I'm at my best with around 9. I hate that I need so much sleep - waste of time!

vodkaredbullgirl · 24/02/2023 07:01

Sleep what is that 😃 I work nights so all over the place.

Theimpossiblegirl · 24/02/2023 07:01

Less than I'm getting!
I need about 7 1/2 to 8.

oceanbleu · 24/02/2023 07:02

Atleast 8, preferably 12. Blush

WaddleAway · 24/02/2023 07:05

I need 8 to feel human. I get around 4-5.

CrackersCheeseAndWinePlease · 24/02/2023 07:05

I'm going to try and keep myself awake longer tonight, I was all refreshed when I woke up at 4.15 but as I've been awake 3 hours already I'm already on my second coffee and I've got a full day at work ahead of me.

7-8. I wake around 5:45 without fail if I get to bed at a decent time. Running on 4 hours today I feel terrible already.

Needingacoffee · 24/02/2023 14:08

I need at least 8 hours of sleep every night.

ALongHardWinter · 24/02/2023 14:41

A minimum of 6 hours, preferably 7.

escapingthecity · 24/02/2023 14:44

Always thought I needed 7-8. Been 18 months since I had more than 3 hours of uninterrupted sleep and I am a mess.

MargaretThursday · 24/02/2023 15:47

I used to be able to store up lack of sleep, so go a week on 4-6 hours and then have a good 12-15hour sleep and that worked.
Since I had glandular fever, now around 25 years ago, I need 7 hours to not feel exhausted when I get up, and again round 3pm.
But also I've noticed time of sleep makes a difference to me. If I get up before around 7:45am then I will feel worse off 8 hours sleep than 6 hours when I get up at 9am or later.

OxanaVorontsova · 24/02/2023 15:49

Need about 8, get about 5 🥱

LilLilLi · 24/02/2023 15:52

I aim for around 8, bed at 10.30pm and alarm goes off at 6.45am

My daughter didn’t sleep for the first three years of her life and I was lucky to get 4 broken hours a night, it nearly killed me.

cassiatwenty · 24/02/2023 15:53

7 to 8 to 10

Doliveira · 24/02/2023 15:59

I’m fine with 6, but I’m sooooo much better with 8 and if I can get 9 I’m brilliant.

Creatingusernamesismygame · 24/02/2023 16:10

A good night during the working week for me is 6.5 hours. I’m an over thinker though and have a teething toddler, so sleep is all over the place. Usually get 4-5 hours and that’s tough. However, during the weekend I have 10 hours and then I’m fine for a few days.

anonymous98 · 24/02/2023 16:33

7 to 9 hours, starting before midnight is healthiest for me.

I can sleep 9 hours from, say, 1am to 10am but I won't be as refreshed the next day than if I went to bed earlier.

6 hours or less makes me miserable.

Napping makes me feel worse so I try not to do it.

I actually feel hungover if I don't get enough sleep - queasy and headache-y. I think sleep needs are largely genetic because my family are long, heavy sleepers and don't cope well with sleep deprivation. Hoping not the inherit the walrus snoring gene that plagues all of my relatives over 50.

cptartapp · 24/02/2023 16:34

At least 8. I'm dead to the world by 9.30 every night but rarely sleep through (menopause). Had a poor night last night so topped up with another 90 mins on the sofa this afternoon (day off).
