Are ikea mattresses any good?

Just that really, do you have one, is it any good?
I'm sworn off the mattress in a box model, and don't really know where to start.

I have one that was recommended on Which a few years ago. It cost about £200, has a built-in topper and I love it. It's firm but at the same time the topper makes it feel snuggly and soft. I would definitely recommend it.

RumNotRun · 23/02/2023 20:46

Mine is a Hamarvik I think

Okunevo · 23/02/2023 20:47

We have three, a single and double HAFSLO (no longer available) bought five years ago for around the £100 mark and a double VESTMARKA bought recently for £159 as DS was moving to a double. All are comfortable, DS is happy with his new one, and the five year old ones are still perfectly fine, no sagging or anything.

I've had a few, don't remember the names but all latex mattresses on the firm side. Quite happy with them, and they've been long-lasting. Can't speak to spring mattresses and the like as I detest them.

Annabananna1 · 23/02/2023 20:51

Yes, good. Think they come a little wider / slightly different size though.

Lavender14 · 23/02/2023 20:51

We have one came with our bed in the nursery. So so comfy i look forward to sleeping in there when ds is fussy!

Isthisbatcountry · 23/02/2023 20:55

We have one. Bought it around October time last year. Cant remember what it's called but it was the slightly more expensive one. We wanted the extra height. It's a bit firmer than I'm normally used to but can tell its a very good mattress, unlikely to sag anytime soon. I was doubtful about buying a mattress from IKEA. So glad we did though.

Alittlenonsensenowandthen · 23/02/2023 21:08

Had a ridiculously expensive one which sagged in the middle and generally uncomfortable. Had an IKEA which recommended one for a fraction of the price and it's super comfortable.

HamFrancisco · 23/02/2023 21:12

I’m lying on one right now, it’s about 9 years old and still in really good nick.

LadyMcLadyface · 23/02/2023 21:21

I have the memory foam one (think it's called Morgedal or something) and it's fantastic, before that I had a medium firm HOVAG which was also really comfy.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 23/02/2023 21:24

It's all we buy. Had our last one 14 years. Bought a new one for our bed a year ago and it's so comfortable. The kids have (and have always had) IKEA mattresses too.

NeverThatSerious · 23/02/2023 21:26

We just bought one, the Valevag I believe, medium firm, and I don’t know. DH seems to love it and sleeps much better now than on our old one but it’s hurting my back.. hoping it’s just an adjustment period as it feels lovely to lie on… just not when I wake up!! I do suffer terribly with back issues anyway tho, as a disclaimer!

Napmum · 23/02/2023 21:39

You'll need ikea bedding and an IKEA bed as they're different sizes.

I found them OK but not and good as a good quality orthopaedic mattress

QuietLieDown · 23/02/2023 21:39

Jury is out here. Just bought our first Ikea mattress to replace bloody expensive Vispring one that we've had to finally admit is, and has always been, bloody uncomfortable. Ordered the Valevag online, realised immediately it was way too squishy so took advantage of their mattress exchange policy. Now have an Akrehamn and it's like lying on a slab of concrete. So much more solid that the one we tried in the store, even though they were supposed to be the same tension. Ikea says the ones on display have "settled" and we should give it time. (Which does make trying them out in store seem a bit pointless.) Not sure I can give it time as it's quite painful. I had all my fingers crossed as so many people seem to rate them, but it's looking like it might not suit us.

RumNotRun · 23/02/2023 21:41

Mine came in a standard double size. I'm sure that there were a whole variety of sizes so you could stick to the unusual IKEA sizes or get "normal UK" ones.

Digimoor · 23/02/2023 21:41

yes but you need to lie down on them in the store to see which ones you like

TheArtfulScreamer1 · 23/02/2023 21:48

DS has a Hovag mattress on the spare single bed in his room and it's comfy to sleep on whenever I've had to use it.

Okunevo · 24/02/2023 06:00

Ours are standard single and double. I can buy any bedding.

Kiitos · 24/02/2023 06:05

I love mine. They’ve changed the names but I have whatever was the second cheapest sprung one and it’s amazing. I have cheaper ones of my spare beds too and guests seem to like them too.

Idontmeanto · 24/02/2023 06:15

Bloody lovely! I sleep in my kids rooms given half as chance because they all have them.

musicandpassion · 24/02/2023 06:26

I've always had ikea mattresses. They're really good quality. I can't remember what we have at the moment but it's a firm memory foam one and it's brilliant.
You didn't used to but you can get UK sizes from ikea now, so no need to change your bed frame or sheets.

It used to be that they only came in European sizing, but now most of their range is UK sized if you're shopping in the UK.

handsoffate · 24/02/2023 08:25

I have an Ikea pocket-sprung, cost around £500-£600 five years ago. It’s brilliant, the best mattress I’ve ever had. UK standard sizing but very deep, so we use flat sheets.

Lampzade · 24/02/2023 08:30

I actually prefer IKEA mattresses to others .
I bought a medium firm mattress from ikea and it is very comfortable

Lovetoridemybicycle · 24/02/2023 08:30

I went to replace my IKEA mattress and found that they are now restricted on which ones they do in European sizes and generally only had UK size, so the next time we took the car to France I picked up the European size I wanted ( 2 European singles for a super king size UK- we like out own mattresses) and bought it home
