What time do your kids have dinner (evening meal)?

If you have kids 2-10yrs old, what time do you feed them in the evening?

Someone i follow on Instagram had posted a photo of her child eating dinner at 4:30pm… to me that seems really early?

Trying to figure out if i’m the odd one out here!

Mine are older now but we always ate together around 6:30pm

Caspianberg · 23/02/2023 16:41

Only 1 child, age 2. We eat around 6.30pm most days

MummyDummyNow · 23/02/2023 16:42

5 and 10 year olds eat around 5pm/5:30pm.

Why does it matter to you want time someone else feeds their child?

EmM1189 · 23/02/2023 16:44

It really doesn’t matter. Just curious 😁

DCs 5, 3, 1. We eat around 6/6:20

MeMyCatsAndMyBooks · 23/02/2023 16:46

Between 5pm - 6.30pm, just depends how hungry they are and what we're doing.

HeyMicky · 23/02/2023 16:48

About half 5 if they're eating on their own, 6.30 if we're eating together. Aged 7 and 10

Sunshineismyfriend · 23/02/2023 16:50

When they were young it was 5pm. Bath at 6 and bed for 7. Now they are teens and a pre teen it’s usually between 6 and 7.

Rainbowclimbinghigh · 23/02/2023 16:52

DC 4 and 6 - we aim for 5.30, but sometimes it's nearer 6.

Whatdoesitmatterif · 23/02/2023 16:54

Usually quite soon when we get home from school, about 4/4:30pm usually, otherwise they want a million snacks before dinner as they come out of school so hungry.
they have dinner early and then something small like toast/ crumpets/cereal etc at about 6:30

PrincessHoneysuckle · 23/02/2023 16:56

Hot snack around 3.30 then dinner 5.30/6

Paperexcelandpens · 23/02/2023 16:56

We're late eaters, always have been. A couple of people I know feed their 10/11 year olds at 4pm. It's bizarre, we'd all be starving by bed time if we ate dinner at 4pm.

DrMarciaFieldstone · 23/02/2023 16:57

5pm if I’ve been wfh/off. I like kids dinner done, they like to relax after and not have to get in bath immediately after dinner.

soberfabulous · 23/02/2023 16:59

430-5 here.. DD IS 9.

She goes to bed at 7.

We have a really early morning start,

JimBobbin · 23/02/2023 17:02

We did about 5ish until they were in secondary.

We needed a big gap between dinner and bedtime to avoid bedwetting.

Greenbeans123 · 23/02/2023 17:02

Between 5-6pm (as this has always worked for us). They're teens now. When they were younger they always had a snack after school so they'd last till tea time. Now they know to get a snack if they want but mostly they don't need to as they can last longer.

underneaththeash · 23/02/2023 17:04

when the kids were preschoolers/ks1 they’d eat around 5/5.30 and DH and I would eat at 8.15 - he wasn’t home til 8.
now it tends to be all of us at 7.30. Kids are 16/14 and 11

Springintoabetterlife · 23/02/2023 17:04

6yr and 3yr. We all eat at 5.30, Thursday, kids and me at 4.15 due to an early activity.

Woodendonkey · 23/02/2023 17:06

If she eats at after school club it’s about 4:45. At home during week about 5:30- 6. At the weekend could be about 6:30-7 dependent on what we’re doing

LizzieBrooks · 23/02/2023 17:10

@JimBobbin was it just the drinks with dinner that you were trying to avoid or did the later meal have an impact on bed wetting?
Wondering if that might be where we are going wrong. 🤔

OliverBabish · 23/02/2023 17:12

4:30 - 5 without fail

DC will not allow otherwise 😅

Kranke · 23/02/2023 17:14

Our 2yr old is at nursery so has breakfast and two hot meals there. It’s just a snack at 1830 for them, bed around 1930 then we eat around 2030-2100.

Pinkypurplecloud · 23/02/2023 17:16

4:30-5. I have been known to feed them at 3:45. I’d rather they just ate their dinner than loads of snacks and I can’t deal with hangry children pestering about food.

They have a substantial snack like a bit of our dinner, a bowl of porridge or toast at 7:30 before bed too - but they’re underweight and they refuse to eat a sensible amount at lunchtime.

Noicant · 23/02/2023 17:17

3yr old, usually 5:30 bedtime is supposed to be at 7:30 but it’s regularly past 8 now.
