Solar panels

We've recently had solar panels installed. We will be getting a battery at some point too but there are apparently supply issues.
So far now I'm relying on what is generated by the spring sunshine. I'm at home all day so I can run the washing machine and dishwasher whilst we're generating (although can't run them at the same time otherwise I pay for electricity. It is all seemingly a lot more work at the moment - or just an adjustment to a new routine - and as it was previously DH's only job to empty the dishwasher after it ran in the evening, I'm now finding that's become my job as it runs in the day.
It occurred to me that these panels only provide a good saving (at this time of year) if you are at home all day and can run everything when the sun is out. I know some white goods have delay timers on so could be set to run if you are out all day but not everyone wants to run these machines when the house is empty.

We don't currently have a cheap overnight tariff or feed in tariff as we are still on a fixed rate so haven't shopped around yet.
So if you have solar panels, how do they work for you?

Get a bigger battery so you can use all what you generate, selling to the grid isn't worth it.
