I’ve lived in a housing association house for a year now, it’s a terraced house with a driveway at the back of the property that is not huge or wide but could fit 2 cars back to back, it’s next to my neighbours driveway which is the same size with a shared pathway between the 2 which leads up to the gate to my back garden. Since I’ve moved in I’ve never been able to park on my driveway as neighbour parks her car across the shared pathway which doesn’t leave me enough room to park on my side or even further down the driveway behind as she parks smack bang in the middle at a diagonal.
I tried knocking a few times when I moved in to ask her to park on her side (and straight!) but she never answered the door so I pushed a note through her letterbox. After a month nothing had changed so I spoke to the Housing Association who have been attempting to deal with it ever since. To cut a long story short the HA are now having to go down the legal route as the tenant won’t move her car but over the course of the last year my car has been damaged 3 times when it’s been parked on the main road (not badly but it’s a pain!) and in the last year I’ve never seen the neighbour drive said car at all so I can’t even sneak my car on when she’s out or put flowerpots at the edge of the shared pathway or anything to stop her parking across it because this car never seems to flipping move.
The HA say this tenant has mental health issues and is refusing to engage with them which is awful for her but as harsh as it sounds really isn’t my problem. I’m debating asking for a reduction in rent to reflect that I can’t use my driveway but not sure if that’s being OTT!? It’s been a year and I’m fed up of struggling to park my car when I get in from work or having my car damaged when it’s parked on a main road. There are 3 visitor bays at the front of the houses but these are usually all taken 😩 any advice on anything I can do would be greatly appreciated!
(poorly done) diagram attached as my ramblings probably don’t make sense 😂 red square is where neighbour parks her car.
