Menswear for interview post-Covid

Sorry for the most boring of threads.

DH unexpectedly has an interview in London tomorrow (he had the first interview online this afternoon and they asked him to come for an in-person interview tomorrow). It’s in the IT sector.

Neither of us has worked in London for several years, since we moved to a different part of the country.

In this post-Covid world, what’s best to wear? I assumed suit (perhaps without tie / open-necked shirt?), DH thinks this is way too stuffy and is thinking chinos and a shirt.

Any advice very welcome!

Them Londoners, since 2020 all wear pirates hat and clogs 😂 Like most interviews be smart and presentable. Definitely a shirt and tie, doesn't matter what the employees wear he can figure that out afterwards. Can't see what covid has to do with it surely an interview is always smart.

Chinos and relaxed shirt is way more appropriate than a suit and tie for a role in the IT sector.

He'll look stuffy and outdated in a suit.

We are in the IT sector and would have make candidates interview in a range of clothes. Some are in suits with ties (most senior or eager), others in suit no ties and shirt open, others in chinos, shirt and jacket, and some of our younger candidates will turn up in jeans and a T-shirt.

All this goes to suggest he should wear what's most comfortable in.

Other options: have a look at their work photos on linked in or glassdoor, to get an idea of how smart they are. Look for pictures also of male leaders, what are they wearing?

Good luck!

Make = have

Thank you all! I think a suit and tie is out.

Since Covid my corporate workplace is certainly far more casual in terms of dress, and I think that’s true of a lot of sectors.

I would still think a shirt and tie with trousers would be appropriate. Not black trousers though. No suit jacket. I still like to see people making an effort to make a good impression.

Which industry for IT? And seniority? Plus your husband's journal style?

Banking, insurance, or professional services would be suit and open shirt. Most senior manager roles in most industries too.
Media would be whatever your husband's style is.
Civil service would be a jumper at junior rank. Shirt and chinos as a manager, suit and shirt as a senior.
Startup something young and cool, or whatever your DH is comfortable in (shirt and chinos by by the sound of it).

Good luck
