I’m looking into visiting York and wondered what other places people would recommend? Canterbury is also on my list. I enjoy history so would like somewhere with historic buildings, museums, castles etc.

I’m from London, have also visited Brighton, Bristol, Edinburgh, Oxford, Cambridge and some smaller towns.

Llŷn Peninsula In Wales. Include a visit to Portmeirion.
West Wales for Dylan Thomas museum and the most stunning scenery ever.

Wales generally if you like castles! It has the most per square mile in the world! Ranging from abandoned ones that are just the odd stones in the middle of nowhere to victorian gothic follies like castell coch!

Cardiff might be a good start - unlike say Aberystwyth it's very easy to get to. Cardiff bay is really nice in the summer. Cardiff itself is more modern history that most other uk cities but there's also St Fagans open air museum for buildings that go back much further

Also Belfast should be fine even without a uk passport and is faster to get to from London if you fly than most UK cities driving/train!
