Sensible budget for a bed?

DS and his GF are moving into their first home. Between the families they more or less have what they need as a minimum, from second hand donations. I've said I'll buy a bed as a housewarming gift.

What's a sensible budget? Enough to get something decent but not excessive?

I'd say it depends whether you're offering to get them a mattress too, as well as what size of bed they're looking for, prices can vary massively!
I'd allow £400 for the frame, and £4-500 for a basic mattress, which should cover up to king size.

Someone on here said they paid £10,000 for their bed, so if you love your son & want him well rested, £15,000 should just about do it, I think.

i don't know. Neighbours got on off Wowcher for £500. & they're still happy with it a year later.

I need to buy a new bed, I want something decent, within reason (ie NOT £10,000) but don't know where to start!

why don't you decide how much you're happy to spend & give them the money & then they can choose what they want and either add to it or use any left over for new bedding.

nice house warming present!!

Go to beds.co.uk to look for a frame, if there are any they like. I've had a few. Only had issues with one and it was resolved by them.
