Ovarian torsion - any advice?

Has anyone had this happen? What are the chances of it happening a second time?

Back story: A few months ago I experienced the most excruciating pain of my life. Sharp stabbing pain on one side located where one of my ovary is, hot and cold flashes, unable to speak, vomiting due to the pain, etc. It lasted roughly about an hour and I really did think I might be dying. Luckily the pain dulled down and seemed to have corrected itself. I was able to get a same day appointment to see my GP in the afternoon after it has happened and they confirmed my initial thoughts (thanks to Dr google) that I'd had an ovarian torsion (the twisting of my ovary & fallopian tube).

Because it had corrected itself naturally my GP said there wasn't anything that could really be done for me at that point, but if it happened again to go straight to A&E to try and prevent the loss of my ovary through emergency surgery. I have been referred for a scan by my GP as well but am still waiting for an appointment.

I am now experiencing cramping pains in the same ovary again, but I am not due to start my period for another 2 weeks. I'm panicking a bit that the ovarian torsion may happen again. Does anyone know if this is likely to happen after it corrected itself the first time? Also if anyone has experienced an ovarian torsion I'd be interested to hear what happened.

I can only partially help in that mine didn't correct itself and the ovary came out. If it helps the surgery was all very straightforward and recovery was quick, though I did start perimenopause soon after - don't know if that's related or not as I was about the right age anyway! I agree with you about the pain though. A female doctor at the hospital told me in hushed tones she'd heard it was the most painful thing ever which was pretty vindicating!
