Bankrupt company advice

Hi, I wondered if anyone could help me with some advice please. We bought a conservatory in 2018, the company who installed it and promised a 10 years guarentee on the work went bankrupt in 2021 and now our conservatory is leaking significantly. I have no idea what to do, if they are bankrupt I guess that guarentee is null and void isn't it, or is there someone I can still contact to make the claim? Does anyone know anything about this or can point me in the direction of any services who might know how I go about this? Thanks

The company no longer exists after bankruptcy closes. I think you'll have to have another company fix the leaks.

Has the company gone into liquidation? You can check on the Companies House website. (Assuming it wasn’t a sole trader business?).

Ok thank you. It's so frustrating, how can companies offer guarentees on their work on high value items and then there's no way to enforce it when they claim bankruptcy. I'm up shit creek without a paddle now because there's no way I can afford the repairs privately so the damage is just going to get worse and worse till it collapses I guess. Thank you for your advice

Hi yes it went into liquidation in 2021 but we had no idea until we looked up today

It did go into liquidation. Unless another company bought the business and agreed to honour all warranties / guarantees (which would be a really daft move) then there’s nothing you can do. You’ll need to engage (and pay) another firm.

Cross post but yeah - it is frustrating. Sorry.

How did you pay for it? If you paid for it through credit, I’m pretty sure you can through the company who provided you with the credit. We bought a kitchen from B and Q and had a problem with something. They pushed back until I went down that route. Perhaps you should contact citizens advice.

Platypus86 · 21/02/2023 16:54

No we didn't pay on credit card unfortunately. Thank you
