Help, freezer door left open, what to keep?

Partner left the freezer door open, would have been around 5pm last night, I only noticed when I got home from shopping at 9am this morning 🤦🏻‍♀️ it's an under counter freezer so not huge.
Everything was defrosted and soaking wet.

I was so annoyed I just closed the door and walked out the kitchen.
What will be safe to keep? I'm assuming fresh meat/meatballs will have to be binned?
What about chips, chicken steaks, salmon parcels?
It may seem like a silly questions but I've never had this happen before haha
We also have 2 toddlers so wouldn't want to risk them getting ill

I would cook everything that has a value to you. And then fridge it, and reheat over the next few days.

I’d cook as much as you can today, and eat over next few days. Anything like chips, veg, fruit will be fine to re-freeze, in my opinion!

Cook what you can of the meat and the fish into another dish you can freeze, it will still be chilled enough, and bin the rest.

I wouldn’t refreeze anything but would batch cook then freeze into meals whatever I could.

It’s tricky because you don’t know how long it was defrosted for. I‘m quite laid back about this stuff generally but if it was really all wet and not cold I‘d only keep bread, cake, fruit and veg. Possibly the texture will suffer though.

Was it still cold when you took it out?
If so & I was advising a friend....

Meatballs/ mince I would cook in sauces & refreeze to reheat later.

Fresh chicken/ salmon parcels/ breaded chicken I would refrigerate and eat over the next few days.

Chips & veg will just be a quality issue. Refreeze them, but they might be one frozen lump when you come to cook them.

If it was for me, I'd refreeze the lot, use it on the day of defrost and make sure it was thoroughly cooked. If it was still cold in the fridge your bacterial growth is going to be minimal & cooking will reduce residual bacteria to a safe level.

It will have taken a fair few hours for everything to defrost, especially if your freezer was quite full. So I wouldn't worry unduly about stuff like chips - I'd just re-freeze those. As PP have said, cook the meat/fish that you have, and then freeze those dishes.

Cook all the meat that can be frozen cooked and refreeze. Plan you your meals around the stuff that can't be refrozen.

Well you could cook it , if not already cooked when frozen (chicken steaks and fish pie for example might be) but realistically are you going to eat it.
