Pancake! Is it a different word for crepe too?

I would go with Tortitas but I think there are regional differences

BIWI · 21/02/2023 10:49

Google translate gives tortita for pancake, but 'crepe' for 'crepe'!

Yankydoodledandy · 21/02/2023 10:51

Ah ok so what about panqueque

Never come across that.
I have seen crepe used mostly

Also means pancake - taken directly from English:

Collins Dictionary

Slippersandchoc · 21/02/2023 10:54

Frisuelos for me!

Yoyooo · 21/02/2023 10:54

Cuban husband and there is no word in Cuba for it as they don't have them! Sorry if that doesn't help 😂

BIWI · 21/02/2023 10:55

Tortitas = pancakes

Yankydoodledandy · 21/02/2023 10:56

I think it has to be tortitas then

Your question is a bit like saying what's the English word for the thing pedestrians walk on at the side of the road, sidewalk or pavement - usage varies country to country and even within countries. Did you have a specific context in mind?

Hoppinggreen · 21/02/2023 10:56

BIWI · 21/02/2023 10:55

Bit more biscuity than pancakes
You do get tortillas de camarones, which are little savoury pancakes with tiny whole shrimp in

Ah ok so what about panqueque

That's what they're called in some parts of Catalunya

SiobhanSharpe · 21/02/2023 11:06

I've also seen tortellitas de camarones which are kind of a shrimp fritter but quite like a crispy pancake. (And delicious, as long as the tiny whole shrimp are indeed tiny.)
And gofre for waffles. Presumably from the French, gauffre.

maddy68 · 21/02/2023 11:16

Los crepes.

They are more like French crepes than pancakes.

maddy68 · 21/02/2023 11:18

Tortillas are very different to pancakes. They usually have potatoes in

Or they are wheat based. But definitely not pancakes.

Los crepes is correct

People have said tortitas or tortellitas, not tortillas.

For what I'd call British style pancakes (large, thin and served with sugar/honey/lemon) we always called them panqueques. Crepes are the non-British types.

WeAreTheHeroes · 21/02/2023 11:40

Crepes are as near as damn it British style pancakes. 99.9% closer than American style pancakes!

Sorry, I wasn't clear, crepes had all kinds of toppings including savoury whereas panqueques didn't. I never encounterd American pancakes as a child, and so never had a spanish word for them.

LabradorEyes · 21/02/2023 16:40

I call them panqueques or tortitas. "Gofres" are different, more like waffles

Aintgointogoa · 21/02/2023 17:07

Here in Colombia they call them 'pancakes' in the places where they cater for more US/European visitors 😀 They are generally the thicker American type. Heaps of fresh fruit and maple syrup. Yum.
