Recommend a washing machine

Help after a complete nightmare trying to buy a machine I’ve given up the will to live.
I want one that is going to last longer than 3 years (don’t buy Beko), large capacity (10kg) and a 1600 spin would be great. Recommendations where to buy from would also help. Budget of up to £600. Thanks

This thread is a little old now so some of the suggestions may be out of date, but if you’ve landed here looking for washing machine recommendations, we’ve recently updated our best budget washing machines page with lots of great options, as tried and tested by Mumsnet users. We hope you find it useful. Flowers

Tbh I’m not always convinced paying more buys you quality unless you went into the £1000 plus bracket

we have zanussi 1600 spin think 9 kg 5 year old longest one we’ve had

Oopswediditagain2023 · 20/02/2023 21:45

I love our Bosch one but the concrete in the bottom has gone on it now so it's very noisy! But it still works fine. Had it since 2015.

Miele doesn't have the concrete in the bottom so they last longer.

Bluebottomedsheep · 20/02/2023 21:46

LG every time !!

Alfiemoon1 · 20/02/2023 21:52

Samsung eco bubble

Clymene · 20/02/2023 21:55

I have a Samsung which you can open the door and put a forgotten sock in. In love it for that alone. Max spin is 1400 but honestly that's fine for me.

JoanThursday · 20/02/2023 21:57

Bosch every time here. And ours has an 'Add a sock' function too 😁

TicTac80 · 20/02/2023 21:58

I bought my LG Direct Drive washing machine in 2012. It has an 8kg capacity and 1600 spin. Never had any problems with it. I don’t know what it would cost these days but if they make the newer versions as good as the one I have, then definitely well worth it!!

Iudncuewbccgrcb · 20/02/2023 22:00

You can get large capacity Samsungs for that budget - the spin only goes to 1400 though but I can't say I've ever noticed that the spin isn't sufficient on mine.

Plus it plays a natty tune when it's finished and I think Samsung does a 5 year guarantee on a lot of items?

I've had a Samsung ecobubbles one for 7 years and it's been well and truly used and abused in that time as we have daily heavily soiled items to wash. It's still going strong [touch wood]

Strongbeatsskinny · 20/02/2023 22:02

Another vote for LG first one lasted 15 years and present one is 9 years old.

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 20/02/2023 22:03

Samsung all the way for us too.

ladygindiva · 20/02/2023 22:11

I have a cheap beko still going strong after 6 years with no issues. Best and cheapest machine I've ever had.

echt · 20/02/2023 22:17

Miele. Expensive but they have a cold setting so lots of savings there.

lovetosup · 20/02/2023 22:21

Love our Samsung!

oakleydoke · 20/02/2023 22:25

Another vote for Miele. And if you visit their outlet page, there are usually some for the top end of your budget. We got our 9kg from there recently. Returns/refurbs but 30% off list price, two year warranty (same as new) and free delivery to anywhere in UK included. Also offer installation (£25) and removal of old appliance (£20) as additional costs.

The UK outlet is in Oxfordshire if you were nearby and wanted to go and look for yourself. But Google Miele Outlet and you'll be able to download the list of available stock. Updated every week so don't lose hope if there isn't the one you want!

Artisticpaint · 20/02/2023 22:35

Our current Miele is fab and at least 16 years old. I’m not sure if they are built to last like that these days

Slatkater · 21/02/2023 19:04

Thanks for suggestions. Samsung is a no after messing me about, cancelling on day of delivery and new delivery date of 2 weeks away.

Placesaving. Ours died yesterday after 17 years good service. It's a Hotpoint Aquarius. We don't need anything big because there are only two of us and we only used it once a week for two loads.

hennaoj · 21/02/2023 20:05

Went from a Miele to a Haier as our lovely 13 year old Miele broke (it had nearly ten years of cloth nappy washing) and really did not like the new ones. My mum has a new one and it makes you wait 5/10 minutes after it's finished washing before you can open the door on it, it's not nearly as solid as the old ones and the programs on it are difficult to decipher.
The Haier was a bargain from Costco, very high capacity, direct drive so very quiet, smooth drum, easy to use and has a steam function for Shirts and stains.

Jins · 21/02/2023 20:08

I’ve just replaced our 12 year old Beko with another Beko because the old one has been the most efficient and most reliable washing machine I’ve ever had.

Slatkater · 22/02/2023 00:30

It’s a three year old Beko that I am replacing. I think it is the carbon brushes have worn but have found out you can’t just replace the brushes (approx £15.00, easy to replace them yourself) you have to buy a whole new motor! I’m fuming at the waste, so much for saving the environment! We’re a family of three so the machine was hardly overworked..

Candy....I've had a couple over the years. Pretty impressed with them.

HorribleHisTories15 · 22/02/2023 05:47

Another vote for a Miele.
Had ours for 15 years, never ever had one problem with it. They hold their value very well, bought an A energy grade back then. Lots of settings (cold, half load, extra soiling etc). About to invest in a new one.

whirlyhead · 22/02/2023 06:23

I had a 20 year old Miele die recently, but my appliance man advised the new ones aren’t as good, so I bought a Haier. It’s quiet and seemingly efficient so far plus has a big drum capacity.

dizzydizzydizzy · 22/02/2023 07:02

Miele, very expensive but we've had ours for 21 years and still going strong. Miele dishwasher will be 21 in July . Also still absolutely fine.

Tiredoftiers · 22/02/2023 07:28

You’ve dodged a disaster not getting a Samsung. I hate mine. It doesn’t wash at 30, only 20,40,60 or 90. The eco program varies between 40-60. The add sock function is no handier than Bosch open the door one. And I’ve yet to find a program that washes properly. I use powder and half the time it leaves some in the drawer.
my Bosch didn’t last more than four years, but at least it washed clothes properly.
