Would you have an operation next Tuesday? Strikes Weds Thurs

I’m due to have a small operation (day case) next Tuesday.

Im scared that if I have any complications there won’t be anyone to help me on Wednesday and Thursday as even emergency care is being stopped.

Should I postpone?

I would imagine they’ll postpone it for your if they’re worried.

RulaLenskasHair · 20/02/2023 21:03

It’s fairly low risk and shouldn’t result in any complications.

But it’s internal laparoscopic surgery, and what if one of the risk factors like a punctured organ or infection happens?

With the removal of emergency care would there be no one to help me?

I support the strikes, but I’m scared.

Where does it say there will be removal of emergency care?

mollibu · 20/02/2023 21:46

I think it's most likely to be cancelled OP. I work in Gynae Admissions and we have been told that it's "Christmas Day service" which is basically emergencies and urgent cases only.

But double check if your trust is striking! Ours didn't the first time but have done the second time and will do this time too.

mollibu · 20/02/2023 21:47

Ignore me- just saw your op is on Tuesday! 🤦🏻‍♀️

But Christmas Day service still stands so you would definitely be seen in an emergency.

AnyFucker · 20/02/2023 21:50

It will probably be cancelled. But if it isn’t, emergency care will still be functioning

Sammysquiz · 20/02/2023 21:57

My husband is an ICU doctor and they’re not allowed to strike.

HairyKitty · 20/02/2023 22:02

Interesting, I just thought I read there was to be a 72hr strike including emergency care strike (not necessarily the same as a&e)

Thank you for all the replies - yes this is my concern - will there be no emergency care?

As I say I am sure it will be problem free after, but I am nervous to put myself in a situation where I am more likely than normal to need emergency care when there may be two days it is not available.

Christmas Day service sounds reassuring tbh.

Do you really think it’s likely to be cancelled?

It’s likely, yes. But of course I don’t know for sure.

RulaLenskasHair · 21/02/2023 22:36

Id thought it would go ahead as the others have.
