So I’ve always been slim(ish). My pre baby weight was 54-55kg at 161cm. Measurements, 32d, 25, 35. So I was a comfy 6/8 UK. I didn’t gain weight with my first baby and was back to my pre baby weight probably within 2 weeks. I didn’t gain weight due to horrible anxiety so it wasn’t healthy.
lockdown and I Crept up 2kg to 57kg and couldn’t shed it. Fell pregnant again and ballooned, can’t have been actual weight rather water weight because 2 weeks pp i was 60kg. It took ages but by summer I was down to 57kg / 56.5again. But it’s just crept back on and now I’m 58kg and Im fluctuating up to 59 at points (probably bloating) but I’m doing all the right things and it’s not coming off. My measurements are up and I’m up 2cm on my waist too… Im honestly eating the same as I did prior to getting down to 57.

anyone got any suggestions? I feel so crap. I know it’s not a tremendous amount to lose but I’m not happy in myself right now

I am sorry but this sounds like your ED speaking to you.
You are well within a healthy range.

0.7kg will make no difference to the contentedness of your life, you have this out of proportion

I’m not talking about .7kg I’m talking about 3kg, aware it’s not a huge amount of weight, probably just over half a stone but I’ve got a very small frame, and it does show.

you’re misunderstanding what I’m saying, my life is fine but in terms of body confidence it does impact me as it’s not my comfy weight

You've only gained a very small amount of weight. As sime PPs suggested, focus on toning and weight/resistance training rather than calorie counting.

Growingannanas has some great HIIT workouts using weights. Or, if you are already quite fit and fancya challenge, try Caroline Girvan. Both free on YouTube.

I think that’s what I need, I wfh and I’m way too sedentary, and by the time the evening comes I’m pooped as they say. I think I’ve lost a lot of that functional activity and steps from walking to and from work and pre kids I used to do weights before work at 6am and now good god nothing would pull me out of bed earlier than I have to be up

If you’ve gone from working outside the home to inside post covid like many of us have then this may be the reason, even though I do think your weight is absolutely fine and you have no need to stress over it. I used to work ‘in the office’ 3 days a week and do a fair bit of walking as part of my commute etc, during lockdowns and working from home I slowly gained about a stone and I still haven’t shifted it. I know I eat too many biscuits and treats but my diet isn’t hugely different to before, it’s just been a combination of a few too many treats and a lot less general movement and it’s added up to a stone of weight gained.

I do think you are overly worrying about a small amount of weight though and given your history I’d just try to keep a check on how you’re talking to yourself about it, if you see what I mean. Try not to be critical of yourself. Would you speak to a friend or loved one in the way you speak about yourself? Think they look awful at your weight? Probably not at all. Like others have said I’d focus on exercise and stop weighing yourself.

Ridingaroundonbuses · 20/02/2023 17:43

Weight Watchers. You don’t need to go to meetings as there is digital membership only where you weigh yourself and enter the results on to the app which is great for tracking your food and exercise.

Lift heavy weights. I’m on about 3500kcal or so a day, I don’t weigh myself as I’d be upset if I lost weight!

I’m so out of shape, I think I need to lose my flab first, I read that you can’t really add muscle mass and lose fat at the same time as you need a surplus to build muscle and then a deficit to lose fat.

it’s my lower belly and waist where my weight is, and maybe a bit on my arms but I’ve lose the definition I had in my bum and my legs. Trouble is now, I don’t have the spare cash for a trainer or even a gym membership or the time to do p90x/ insanity like I used to (although instanity Killed my joints). How would you suggest I go about doing it? I’ve got kettle bells

Hmm if you haven’t done weights before then you would probably need a few sessions with a PT just to check technique. Also probably do need a gym to access heavy enough weights - although the last gym I was at was about £15 a month, could you stretch to that? Once you get going it’s not an expensive hobby compared to most.
Lucy Davis fit I found was really helpful when I didn’t know what I was doing - on YouTube and Instagram, she has some home workouts you could try with kettlebells.

Post babies my belly was like a mound of dough and my arse completely disappeared - like pancake flat 😂. I also spent my twenties running all the time and eating like a bird so lifting weights and eating lots has been a very pleasant change!

I’ve done kettle bells but not free weights as such, realistically I know I need to have something home based because having 2 young kids and doing compressed hrs I end up working until quite late after the kids have gone to bed, so I just know it will be money down the drain 😭😭

Change your habits a bit so you’re getting more steps in. Instead of sitting down to take phone calls I just pop my headphones in and walk up and down the living room. I used to do hardly any steps until I got a fitness tracker but now I do loads and it definitely helps keep my weight under better control. I still have to be careful what I eat as I’m short and Middle Aged and much harder to lose as you need fewer calories as you age. If I didn’t move more I’d definitely be much heavier

FlowerArranger · 20/02/2023 22:03

Try Caroline Girvan. She demonstrates and explains all the moves really well. Start with MUCH lower weights. I'd suggest 3-5 kg, depending on your fitness. You want to get comfortable enough to be able to do the moves without straining.

Don't forget to warm up and keep doing the Beginners' Series until you feel totally comfortable.

In the meantime, I'd suggest you look at a full body workout from her other series and find one that you'd like to tackle next. There's a lot to choose from - EPIC 1, 2 & 3, Heat, Iron, Engame..... as well as lots of shorter, targeted workouts.

Totally life-changing. I'm in my late 60s and in less than 3 years moved from working out with 3kg dumbells to 12.5 kg. (There's a bunch of us Girvanistas hanging out in a long running thread in the Exercise forum.)

I think you need to throw away your scales. My weight can fluctuate 1-2kg in a day and I cannot see one difference. This all sounds very excessive.

This.

You are very preoccupied with your weight. You say you look awful, you absolutely will not look awful, but with your history, your posts are quite worrying to read and I think you should seek professional help.

I think it’s quite irresponsible if people offer any tips for losing weight knowing OPs history.

I agree with this
