So we both became friends meeting at baby groups and she's moved away to a different area. We have decided to meet this Wednesday after a long time. As I have a baby to look after I cannot be making homemade snacks. Any ideas for store bought snacks that are quick and easy to make?. I want to make the visit look very good. Snack ideas for adults and kids plz.

Quiche? Some party food that just needs to be heated up, e.g. spring rolls, those mini Yorkshire puds with beef in?

How old are the kids?

murasaki · 20/02/2023 10:33

Cupcakes?

brownwire · 20/02/2023 10:34

@murasaki kids are 5 and 3 yrs old. Spring rolls is a great idea. Thanks!

Fruit in some form for kids - grapes, banana, oranges are always popular. Maybe some vaguely healthy biscuits/oaty bars as well. Coffee and croissants for you and the friend?

@florafloss great idea with the fruit! I also have noticed many kids like to have "fruit shoot" I have never tried it with my kids though. I'll have to buy some Fruit shoot i guess

I wouldn't buy fruit shoots especially. Kids do like it but 3 might be a bit young for it. Maybe just some squash so they have the choice between that and water.

Can you really not think of any snacks yourself? The shops are full of them.

brownwire · 20/02/2023 10:43

@LucyLeave I am asking because I am from a different ethnicity. She's Russian and has lived here for a long time. I'm Asian. Our food and culture is different but we are very good friends.

I'm sure your friend will be happy with what ever you provide. She's coming to see you. Just get some nice biscuits and cakes.

I would make sandwiches/wraps for lunch and get some cakes from supermarket or bakery? Shops are full of hot cross buns/scones/pancakes right now! You could even buy sandwiches if you wanted! Put the kettle on? Keep it simple. I think you're worrying too much, your friend will just be happy to see you.

If it is lunch time do quiche, or a nice pizza salad, garlic bread and fruit etc. perhaps shop bought brownies as well. If mid morning or afternoon then cakes, or scones with jam and cream.

Have a look in the picnic section of the supermarket:
Sausage rolls, scotch eggs, mini sausages etc
Make some plain sandwiches, ham, cheese etc
Don't go over board though you might end
Up with lots left over. And try for things that can be eaten cold to save you juggling cooking times

Most people have a stash of snacks for their children just in case, so just have what you usually eat. Is it over lunchtime? If so, some pasta with tomato sauce is usually a winner with children and covers any vegetarian/vegan issue. Also very quick! If not over lunch, just get some biscuits or a cake in.
