Just looking for ideas. Old friend visiting in a couple of weekends, hoping to do a combination of meals out & at home. What would you buy? Nice breakfasts?

Have only ever hosted in a group before, it feels kind of awkward! Tips welcomed!

I would make sure I had nice snacks/crisps/biscuits, I might even make a cake as I like to do that. Also croissants, frozen ones are good for breakfast options, and eggs. How much cooking do you want to do?

I would keep it simple.

Depends what you and the friend like and dislike and depends on budget. You could maybe get some nice granola, fresh fruit (even if just strawberries and blueberries) and Greek yogurt or Skyr yogurt. Bacon sandwiches, croissants, pancakes etc.

I would do some one pot meals and some picky snack/grazing type things cheeses, meats, things from deli etc.

I'd do croissant and pan au chocolate with yoghurt for breakfast or scrambled eggs and bacon with toast. Make a homemade lasagne with salad and garlic bread which you could have for lunch or dinner depending on when eating out. I'd buy a frozen cheesecake for dessert. Posh crisps/biscuits for snacks if staying in one evening. Make sure you have nice coffee, and good wine and fresh fruit and you should do fine.

Brilliant ideas! You’ve all made me feel less anxious. I’ve got frozen pain au chocolats, will buy fruit & eggs. Then can make omelettes too, if we end up at home on one of the days for lunch. Will get nice bread & have garlic bread in freezer.

I was thinking about freezing an aubergine parmigiana/ lasagne/curry. Will get that ready in these days. And a pud… I was thinking of baking a cake, so I need those ingredients. Frozen cheesecake great idea.

Maybe some salad bits for impromptu sandwiches? Must remember crisps, nuts, that kind of thing. I never buy these when I’m alone.

Oh yes, drinks! Nice coffee, OJ, some nicer soft drinks & wine. Will also get fizzy water.

what else have I forgotten?

I'd say make sure you have non sugary snacks in case they have any health concerns. Things like nuts etc.

Great idea, non-sugary snacks. They don’t have health concerns but is good anyway! I might get some nice cheese, too, have a box of special crackers.
