10 year old tooth ache dentist says all fine

Her adult tooth was growing on top of baby teeth. My relative who is a dental nurse says it could be she will need braces etc as her teeth are growing out of place. Dentist says she can't find anything but does need to brush better in certain places as plaque has built up. This ache comes and goes aside from her giving her anbesol as recommended not sure what to do. She has baby teeth coming still and adult teeth growing but I've never heard of teething pain in older children. What can I do as dentist doesn't say much.

When DS was x-rayed, they said it was good that his teeth were aligned and coming through straight so it shouldn't hurt. Implication being if a tooth is coming through at and angle, it would hurt?

Has your dentist X-rayed the area where your daughter is experiencing this pain OP?

No, she didn't.

You'll have to take your daughter back OP, ongoing toothache warrants an X-ray to exclude decay that isn't visible to the eye.

When my child went to the dentist with tooth pain they discovered her top and bottom jaw were not correctly aligned to one another and she needed a mouth expander. Did they check her "bite'?

Toothache for me was caused by grinding teeth. Granted this was well past the age of 10! I got a mouth guard to wear at night.

Ds has an odd tooth - high risk of getting small hard to spot holes - and we went back and forward with dentist and orthodontist with what to do went on and on but we did head back when there was pain and there were x-rays taken.

In end they think pain was putting him off cleaning round that tooth inflaming the gum and it was hard to know if that was cause of pain or tooth. Anyway - plague tablets, electric tooth brush , water floss and after dentist suggested sensitive toothpaste and mouthwash all helped and in lock down when we couldn't get seen in reasonable time frame clove oil.

It has settled with better cleaning.

I and other dc did have milk teeth hang on with adult teeth coming in behind - eventually the milk teeth were taken out - don't remember pain with that.

At 10 they were starting to get put on orthodontist lists - as even before covid it took that long to get to top of the list - so if you suspect braces might be needed might be worth asking about that as well.

Of course you can have teething pain, all the way to your 20s and wisdom teeth.

That said, I’d get a second opinion on her teeth. If she will need braces it’s also best for the dentist to start the NHS referral right away as the wait can be 3yrs these days.

Need an xray to see if there's any decay causing pain
