I need to take my dd/DDog to seaside

looking for advice, I’m totally clueless!

I’ve looked at Rhyl, Prestatyn, Conwy. Hoeseasons Talacre Beach. Can anyone recommend any of these?

I live in Peak District, I want to take my dd on a 2 night break to the seaside. It needs to be dog friendly as I wont leave my dog.

My DD loves Blackpool & although I hate anywhere chavvy, I’m prepared to take her anywhere fun. it needs to be within 2hours away.

can anyone smuggest anywhere, I have no clue what I’m doing at all!

I just want her to have a change of scenery & some fun! We won’t get to go abroad fora good few years yet.

I would recommend the East Coast, Scarborough, Whitby, Filey. Good mix of seaside things to do and beaches for dogs. Filey is great as the beach is miles long. My dog can be slightly anti social but if you just walk away from the main town / parking you cam have endless amounts of space.
I am sorry if this offends anyone but Rhyl is one of the grimest places I have ever been. You need to get a bit further into north Wales for the nicer bits, Llandudno, Harlech etc.

Out of the north wales choices i would go to Conwy its very pretty nice beach and the castle is interesting Rhyl and Prestatyn are down market need money investing in them Talacre beach i dont know Llandudno is good too long beach, funfair, big hill you can go to the top and theres an iron age copper mine you can go down

Morecambe. Choose a festival weekend, kite festival, music festival, vintage festival, vintage bus day. It's Baylight at the moment but you'd need to set off now 🤣

Walk along the prom and stone jetty, you can get a treasure trail online. Eric Morecambe statue, happy mount park, the beaches, heysham village and the Viking graves, St. Peter's, ice cream, plenty of cafes, chippys. The iconic Midland Hotel for coffee and cake. Arcades and bowling, jump rush trampoline park, the winter gardens is free entry and interesting, also has a cafe.

Train to Lancaster where you've got Lancaster castle, the Ashton memorial and butterfly house, maritime museum, city museum and shopping.

Yorkshire coast, go on the council website for up to date dog friendly beaches. There's a caravan site we took youngsters too south of Bridlington which they loved.

Campervangirl · 18/02/2023 11:27

I'd recommend the East Coast too.
Filey, Bridlington etc and there's a lovely dog friendly beach you can walk to from Brid all the way along the sand to Fraisthorpe, there's also parking there if you cant be bothered to walk.
There's a dog friendly cafe, outside seating and toilet's.
If you want somewhere to stay in Brid have a look at South Shore, I think it's called South Shore holiday village, they have chalets and it's in-between Brid and Fraisthorpe, you can walk between both places along the beach

Cleethorpes. Humberstone fitties is a 1950s chalet area and some have them have been redone and are amazing with log burners and stunning architecture. Some a pretty much in the 1950s state . The beach is dog friendly all year. Such a cool place like stepping back in time ! You have to drive through the haven site to get there. They are on air bnb etc

Main cleethorpes beach is dog friendly oct - mar but not sure on dates .

When are you planning on going? Currently off season for most seaside towns so not always everything is open until easter time.

Anyway that aside go to St Annes...enough public transport to do a day in blackpool for your daughter but far enough away from being in blackpool itself. Beach at St.Annes is massive too

QueenMabs · 18/02/2023 11:35

There have been reports of high levels of toxins at brid (cont remember which one but it was on the local news. You can't swim in there at the moment. I don't think I'd want my dog going in there either.

Second that. You've got Lytham which is lovely and can go to Blackpool without staying there

QueenMabs · 18/02/2023 11:37

It's south beach at Bridlington and E. coli. Just fyi!

I wouldn’t go to Morecambe, OP. It’s dire. You go one street past the prom and it’s exceptionally rundown - graffiti and litter everywhere, broken windows, empty units.

YesYou · 18/02/2023 12:42

@MelaniesFlowers when was the last time you were in Morecambe? You're talking about a handful of streets in the west end.

There has been absolutely loads of regeneration in Morecambe with more to come with the Eden project. There were thousands of people on the promenade last night for Baylight and the other festivals are awesome too. I forgot the Viking festival. That's a good one. Baylight will return next year, I bet your daughter would love it OP.

What's run down about happy mount park, Bare, the promenade and Heysham?

I was in Morecambe last week. They are attempting regeneration yes, but only in certain areas like Happy Mount and on the prom.

The rest of it is just an absolutely shitshow. It isn’t at all a safe or family friendly place as hard as they’re trying. It’s rife with drugs and violence.

MarshaMelrose · 18/02/2023 14:29

Just be careful if you're taking the dog on the beach. A lot of the places you mention have automatic fines for dogs going on sections of the beaches but their notices of which sections they are, are very unclear.
Rip off councils round here.

OllytheCollie · 18/02/2023 15:27

Formny and Southport. Formby beach is amazing for dogs and you can take them there all year all round. No facilities so take a picnic but there are life guards so it's safe to paddle and swim, amazing dunes to play on, usually an ice cream van. We took our kids on loads of day trips there and live roughly where you do. Southport has rides and a pier and stuff. Easy drive too, I don't like Brid etc as much. I love all of North Wales buts it's a bit further, I wd do Formby first.

In season, the side to the south of the pier doesn't allow dogs but the north side does - unless something has changed in the last few years. It's a huge beach especially at low tide ... it can be quite a trek to get to the water's edge and then so shallowly shelving we've never actually managed to swim there.

Give over. Heysham, the miles long promenade, Bare, Hest Bank and the regenerated part of Poulton are not rife with drugs and violence. Ridiculous comment. It was brilliant tonight for the last evening of Baylight.
