Not your average mirena question

Does anyone think there is a link to back/join pain and/or IBSlike symptoms including nausea with the Mirena?

I had my mirena coil removed after 8 months as I'd had constant spotting but also back pain. My lower back (just above my bum) would spasm and the ligaments felt very loose (if that makes sense). Within a week of removal, I had no more issues with my lower back.

DramaAlpaca · 17/02/2023 20:59

I had no negative issues with the Mirena at all, it suited me very well.

coffeeforme1 · 17/02/2023 21:18

Thank you both for your replies. Just trying to collect evidence!

Not for me.

The4teddybears · 17/02/2023 21:22

Mine was a dream. No issues at all. Suited me well. I must admit to being scared to have it fitted , and it was a little uncomfortable but well worth it .

Tomso · 17/02/2023 21:23

I developed a kind of weird depression where I couldn't physically move. I don't think it's as harmless as they make out.

ForestLilac · 17/02/2023 21:24

Mine has been perfect. Too perfect in fact, I forget it’s there and I’m now thinking ought I have it changed? They only last a certain time don’t they?

coffeeforme1 · 17/02/2023 21:32

@ForestLilac yes 5 years.
Glad to hear some of you haven’t had problems. I’m in the process of trying to work out if mine has caused any for me 🤔

I developed severe anxiety. Could be coincidence or not.

coffeeforme1 · 17/02/2023 21:39

@autienotnaughty interesting. Maybe not just physical side effects then

coffeeforme1 · 17/02/2023 21:40

@Tomso I agree. Although I don’t have scientific/medical proof.

Mine's been brilliant. I know some women have problems with it, but honestly I've found it great. No back pain. I have IBS anyway and Mirena doesn't make it worse. My periods are super light and only about four per year. I'm on my second one and love it.

coffeeforme1 · 17/02/2023 21:43

@Whyisitdarkalready. The lower back discomfort is exactly my experience.

Withnailandeye · 17/02/2023 21:44

I am constantly questioning mine to the extent I’ve been cycle tracking for the past 6months.

I have cycle related pains, before my period it’s a deep ache in my lower back but the worst is pelvic and groin pain around ovulation which sometimes takes my breath away. I had this in after my second child so it could just be that my cycles are very different now to what they were before children but I spend a lot of time worrying about how abnormal they have become and whether it is linked to the coil. I saw the GP last week and she examined me and said everything was fine and that the coil shouldn’t do that, but after my first DC my cycles followed the same pattern they always previously had so I’m not convinced.

Locsup183 · 17/02/2023 21:46

@coffeeforme1 Ive had it twice. First time, five years of bliss. Forgot it was there. Second time horrendous bloating, stomach pain, muscles ache all the time, nausea, low moods. I want it out so badly!

XanaduKira · 17/02/2023 21:48

I'm on my 2nd & no issues whatsoever- love it!

PlainJanePerfect · 17/02/2023 22:00

The day it went on, all the pain was in my butt- like shooting pain, sleeping on my stomach.

Once it settled it was great a few years until it was time to come out and the strings were too short.

Goodread1 · 17/02/2023 22:04

Nope no problems whatever really ,

Had my 2nd

Mirer coil put in a few years ago Op

If you Google merina and anxiety seems like it's effected a lot of women but my dr said it was impossible due to the small amount of hormone 🤷‍♀️ I had it took out and gradually mh improved (I was having counselling, taking steps to improve mh) I wouldn't have it again.

coffeeforme1 · 18/02/2023 08:18

Thank you all for your responses. Very mixed reviews. Interesting how the GPs rarely acknowledge anything other than the positives
