Does anyone have a Thermomix?

DH keeps mentioning Thermomix to me and having watched a few YouTube videos on them, they do seem really good. But I'm put off with the method of buying them - it seems you need to meet with a rep to buy one off them?

It seems a bit pyramid schemey to me and I can't really be bothered with that, if they're good I just want to order one Grin

Does anyone have one/gone through the sales process?

Current cost is around £1250. I'd also say that as an intuitive, add a splash of this and a pinch of that cook, the insanely detailed steps (30 seconds on power 7 then 20 seconds on power 6 reverse blades etc) drive me bananas. Takes all the pleasure out of it.

I thought it did everything for you - but the constant interventions...not keen. You still have to peel and chop, you have to fry in batches. The video instructions I've seen online would not make me think it does everything for you. I thought about getting one for dh to cook with with as he finds cooking stressful - I don't see how this thing helps enough.

I have one. I absolutely love it.

I use it mostly as a sous chef, for chopping/blending/sauces. For example, last night I made a tuna pasta bake and chopped the cheese and garlic in the Thermomix, then cooked the béchamel sauce in there whilst I sorted out the pasta/tuna/peas/corn. No need to stand over a stove whisking a sauce whilst supervising a toddler and it shaved 20 minutes off the meal prep.

You can convert more or less any recipe on the internet into Thermomix instructions using ChatGPT.

It’s rare that I cook a meal end to end in the Thermomix but it does save me time and money as a competent cook. Definite luxury but one that I use 2-3 times a day.

I tried making white sauce in one once. It took longer than doing it in the microwave, though tbf it was more hands-off. I like being hands-on in the kitchen though.

What is the benefit of a thermomix over ready grated cheese and frozen chopped garlic?

Nothing really, although I don’t like ready grated cheese as it’s coated in anti-caking agent and doesn’t melt smoothly in some recipes.

They have long been popular in Spain, my friend is 50 and has had one for the last 15 years, her mother has had one for a good 30 years.

seem excellent devices.

Did you just chuck in the garlic with skin on? Because it's getting the bloody skin off and the stalk at the end that's the most annoying - mincing it with a cook's knife is the easy bit.
How does I help prep pasta peas corn and tuna? Did you have to boil the pasta separately?

I put cloves in skinned. If you bash the garlic with the end of a kitchen knife then the skin slides off.

Pasta was done on the stove (although theoretically could be done in the Thermomix) and I used the time whilst the sauce was whirring away to measure out peas, corn and drain & flake the tuna, and make a panko and Parmesan topping.

DH has one. Uses it loads. Wasn't a huge bother getting it I don't seem to recall, he just sent a couple of messages.

We are vegan and have lived overseas in some very non-vegan places - he finds it very useful for making things like vegan cheese, butter, sauces from scratch. Uses it for curries which we eat a lot. It's on most days! He wanted one for years and years and hasn't been disappointed. We don't tend to use the step-by-step recipe functions although I think that's neat, but still get a load of use out of it making what we always did but more efficiently.
