My garlic bread is going to burn :)

DD2 (5 months) fell asleep during a feed at 7pm instead of her usual 8pm bedtime. I wasn't expecting her to fall asleep so soon as her evening wake window is 2.5 hours but it had only been 1.5 since her last nap.

She woke up at 8pm when I tried to transfer her to her crib. I tried getting her to sleep again but she wasn't having it.

Brought her down and left her in bouncer so I could sort dinner. Put garlic bread in the oven.

She still seemed tired, so I put her back on boob forgetting that the oven is on. In hindsight, I should've used the timer switch off function thing.

She's asleep again on my boob but is failing the rag doll test (not in deep sleep) so she'll wake if I take her off boob.

It's nice garlic bread too, one of those fancy flatbread ones.

No question or anything, I'm just sad that I have to choose between letting my daughter sleep and garlic bread.

PS hubby and DD1 are out and not coming home any time soon.

What have you had to sacrifice (lighthearted) for your children's sleep?

@plumduck that made me giggle.

Also I realise in my OP I said I didn't have a question, but I ended the post with a question 🤦🏽‍♀️

Can you walk to the oven with her still on the boob. I am sure I used to walk around feeding - especially with DS2 as DS1 needed things!

There was a point with DS2 when I was sure I was sacrificing my mental bad physical health for his sleep (or lack of)!! 🤣

Get it out the oven. At least you can eat garlic bread

Garman · 16/02/2023 21:12

In that situation I just leave the baby attached to the boob, carry them to the oven, take out item one handed, and go back to wherever I was with the baby. Don't burn it, you'll want it later! And also don't want a kitchen fire.

TheChosenTwo · 16/02/2023 21:41

Just walk with the baby still attached to you! I used to do all sorts of stuff while still feeding my baby including shopping discreet feeding obviously, wasn’t strolling around the supermarket with my boobs out 😂, and cooking!!
you don’t want to have it burn and set off the smoke alarms, that will be far more inconvenient.

burntgarlicbread · 17/02/2023 09:15

Didn't think of a fire tbh.

I tried walking with her on my boob but she woke up 😩

She played for half an hour whilst I had my dinner then I just took her up to bed with me. It went a bit crispy but it was delishhhhh.

Glad you got to enjoy it at least. My DD always used to wake up whenever we cooked garlic bread. She was a fussy eater so I added puréed garlic to so much of her food so she’d eat it.
