Is it normal to feel exhausted every morning and struggle to get up?

I'm 38. For as long as I can remember I have been exhausted in the morning. Today I have been awake since 7am, with my alarm sounding every 5 minutes. I still didn't manage to get out of bed until 8.05 then had to rush to get the children to school. Every morning is similar, each day it is a fight to get up and I have to rush around getting ready. Today I'm tired still and it is 10.45, I also have a headache to boot. I went to bed at 9.45pm last night, so it isn't lack of sleep as such.
Weekends I will sleep til 11 if left, I set my alarm for 8.30 and snooze it continuously for hours. I just don't want to get up. I generally get up between 9-10 though, but usually I'm still tired.
Obviously if there is something going on that day I get up earlier, but if not I always lie in.
I do generally get 8 hours a night, but like last night it was almost 11 hours and still not enough.
I know I am not anaemic, but I do have low ferritin. GP not interested though. I try to have a reasonable diet and take a multivitamin. I eat very little meat - no red meat at all. Only chicken. I mostly eat a veggie diet.
I'm just so fed up of feeling like this. I'm not depressed, no MH issues. I've had low moods at times of stress, but nothing that keeps me down long term.
I don't regularly use hormonal contraception, I did have the depo in Nov but since age 17 I have probably spent maybe 4 or 5 years in total with hormonal contraception. So I can't put anything down to that.
I don't take any other medication or have any major medical issues. I am overweight significantly currently. My weight has yoyoed from bmi 24-44 over the last 20 years. Multiple times. Being in a normal weight category didn't make any difference. Still tired and sluggish every morning.
The tiredness doesn't always last all day. But the getting up in the morning extreme tiredness has always been there.
Is anyone else like this? Has anyone cured it? Is this just me forever now?

Definitely book more blood tests. I felt like this before my thyroid was sorted

NoMoneyForEducation · 16/02/2023 15:21

What are your periods like? Sometimes heavy periods can be the thing that triggers GPs to take notice?

If they are heavy - again this can be a thyroid issue.
And also a viscious circle with anaemia

Coming to say check your Hb.

I felt like you and began to have terrible periods.
Long story short, my levels were life threatening and I had to be admitted as emergency for several blood transfusions.

Would strongly suggest a FBC.

i am similar however mine is a side affect of severe endometrioses and Adenomyosis. My whole body aches especially when i lie down, can sleep for 12 hours if let. It fluctuates over the month and is worst at my time of the month. There is nothing i can do (have had 10 laporaoscomys so far) I manage it by trying my best to live a healthy lifestyle. I eat as healthy as i can (lost nearly 2 stone in weight during 1st year of pandemic) I know work from home as much as i can so less driving. Getting out for exercise is critical, even if its only a 20 min a walk a day. I also do swimming aswell. These are the only exercises i can do that don't exhaust me. I also take some supplements magnesium and vitamin c plus rotate berocca and revive ( as i don't drink tea or coffee). Have a cleaner as i am notable to do it myself. I also allow myself down time, a weekend every couple of weeks where i have nothing on to rest, this helps big time

In order to wake up I’d strongly recommended taking a huge drink of water/ half pint once your alarm goes at 7am

11-12 is really late to go to bed imo so I’m not surprised it’s a struggle to get up

try to get morning sunlight as soon as you get up - a cup of coffee on the doorstep or anything. This resets your circadian rhythms and works a treat. Harder in winter I know but worth it. Just 10 mins of sunlight on your face (not through a window!). You can also get 10k sunlight lamps to do the same in winter but not as good as real sunlight.

I've always been exhausted 😄

Quitelikeit · 16/02/2023 15:27

Also yes to sleep aponea if you are overweight I think if makes snoring more likely

Definitely get your Vit D levels checked. I went through a phase of falling asleep every afternoon - I’d even have to go for a lie down if I was visiting friends or family! I’ve been known to nap in my office car park. My MiL was concerned (I was always nipping off to bed when they visited - I think she started taking it personally 😂) so I went to the GP. Everything was fine except my Vit D levels which were through the floor. He prescribed some super-strength supplements and after a couple of weeks I was fine. Interestingly the only other symptom I had was that the hairs on my legs became sparse and grew very slowly. No idea if it was connected, but it happened at the same time then improved with the supplements.

  1. It has been a few years since it was checked. I'd hope it was higher now due to vitamin intake. I also take 20mcg vit d. I did buy ferrous sulphate otc and tried that for a couple of weeks but I couldn't tolerate 1 a day even as it just gave me awful nausea.

I had three infusions after APH at 4.
