Toddlers - London transport

I’m meeting my SIL in London on Saturday. Need to get to Knightsbridge. Is it easy to take a lightweight pushchair on the tube?

will I need to fold it down and carry my toddler?

There are maps that will show you which tube stations have lifts.

Otherwise, be prepared for stairs and escalators, although I always found that someone offered to help me lift the buggy down the stairs.

You're not expected to fold down while actually on the tube - most people keep their kids sitting in the buggy.

Depends, what time of day? the tube is always pretty busy. If the train isn't busy, no problem, you can just push it on and not need to fold it. During the rush hour, if there's one thing guaranteed to infuriate commuters it's people trying to manoeuvre buggies into an already crowded carriage.

Where are you travelling from? You want to look into the easiest route where you can avoid escalators. If it's just you with your toddler, someone will always help you carry your buggy up or down the stairs.

You don't have to fold your pushchair on the tube (bus is a different matter), but Saturdays can be very, very busy, so a pushchair might not fit. Although, if the tube is busy enough to not get your pushchair on, you might want to wait for a quieter tube with a tiny toddler anyway rather than play sardines with someone that small.

You’ll be fine. Preferably Avoid the coming home from shopping rush at 5.30 / 6. Highly likely that someone will offer to help carry your lightweight buggy on stairs. London dwellers who are used to that rather than other visitors.

You presumably are used to taking your buggy on shop escalators etc, so no need to fold your buggy on the escalator.

Have a lovely day.
