Salt water rinsing after tooth extraction

DS18 had 2 baby teeth removed yesterday.
The aftercare says to start salt water rinsing 3-4 times per day after 24 hours but doesn't say how long for?

How many days does he need to do it for?

I don't remember doing rinses after I had my wisdom teeth out.

I'd probably do it after meals to prevent food from going in the sockets

Thats the plan but it doesn't say how many days to do it?

7 days I'd think would be enough, healing should be well underway by then x

I had a tooth out recently and I was told to do this after every meal for, in my case, about a week but I think it varies. May be worth ringing the dentist to check what they recommend? Your ds needs to be careful not to dislodge the clot.

Do not let him suck through a straw, or suck anything. My DS thought using a straw would be good, but it dislodged the clot and he got dry socket. It was very, very painful.

Oh yes I forgot this about the straw! Apparently it’s the suction which can dislodge the clot. I too thought that a straw would be a good idea, but it’s a big no no!

Great thankyou. We'll definitely avoid the straw!

I'd do it for at least a week, it's good practice to do it anyway as part of your oral hygiene after flossing
