Just looking at swim stuff for this summer, will be going away with lots of pool days.
I've just read it's best to get them neon for safety. I hate neon colours but how important is this!!? Do you buy neon?

It's important in case anything goes wrong so the lifeguard can see them... also so you can easily spot them if they're playing any distance from you!

I do since I learnt of it. But it doesn't have to be neon, red, yellow, orange, pink and coral seen to be the best. I'd definitely avoid blue now.

We went to Florida last summer, with super busy water parks the neon really helped! Spot my 5yo

Yes I do for this reason. I think it looks nice in the sun as well. It’s not as easy as it should be to get hold of though

AloneOnTheBeach · 15/02/2023 21:31

At my DD's swimming lessons blue is banned.

picklemewalnuts · 15/02/2023 21:34

I had no idea!

I always dressed mine in bold clothes when out and about though. They are easier to spot. Also bright flowerpot sun hats help too!

VenusClapTrap · 15/02/2023 21:40

I didn’t know this. Makes sense though. I’ll never get either of mine in neon though.

25 years ago I worked as a nanny in USA and used to regularly take three kids under 5 to the local pool. Their mum had them in brightly coloured shorts and tshirt shaped one-piece costumes which were quite unusual for the time but which were brilliant for being able to see them as well as not needing so much constant sun screen reapplication.

Pettv · 15/02/2023 22:06

@mnahmnah wow, that really drills the point home! Huge difference ill definitely get them.

@Eatentoomanyroses definitely harder than it should be to get hold of! I'm searching right now. Hate that everything has sharks on it 😩

Sounds like a good idea. I still watch mine though (not the massive 6’6” as he can stand at the bottom of the pool, but the 5’11 one and DD- I wouldn’t watch them in a normal pool, but I would in a big wave pool like that - or the sea.

I always bought very bright or neon swimwear as we spent lots of tine at the local phblic pools (USA).

That was back when very few people did it. When everyone does it, it loses its effectiveness.

mathanxiety · 16/02/2023 01:14

Have you looked at Lands End UK swimwear offerings?

Axolot · 16/02/2023 01:57

I've done it ever since I saw a frantic Mum looking for her son at centre parcs. "He's got blue trunks on" was not helpful at all. All the little boys seemed to have blue trunks!
(the boy was fine BTW - the Mum had just lost sight of him)

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 16/02/2023 02:25

Won't everyone will be tripping over the cables? Although I would think having electric-powered swimwear would be a more serious concern - especially in water. 😰
