Just that really .It's not possible to phone for an appointment and an e consult form has to be completed instead.
I've finally accepted I need to see a GP for a long standing problem but was surprised to find that at 11am no more forms were being accepted that day and that I'll need to try again at 8am tomorrow.
Better than trying to get through on the phone .

Ours stop at 10 am but you can put them in overnight during the week so they are there for the staff to go through in the morning.

BeeBB · 15/02/2023 17:23

Ours keeps changing the rules and moving the goal posts. Now you can’t submit one until after 12 noon.

amberedover · 15/02/2023 17:24

Ok - I guess that's what I was expecting .

We can only complete one for my surgery during opening hours, but there's no cut-off. They then commit to getting back to you in some way by the end of the following day - in my experience, when and how this happens depends on the issue.

amberedover · 15/02/2023 17:26

Interesting .I'm pretty sure ours was like that with a commitment to respond in 2 or 3 days .Sometimes it would take longer depending on issue .

I asked my surgery as it seemed v random times to me. Basically it opens when the surgery opens for a couple of hours, but if loads of consults are heaping up in the system it is closed off. They are only accepted during that window.

I would imagine each surgery is different thou.

Ours is 8-9am on 3 days and 8-9.30am on 2 days.

Sometimes it is not on at all if they have staff shortages. You can phone if its an urgent enquiry

Mine generally does stick to it but a response can mean a receptionist calling to arrange an appointment so you're not necessarily seen/get to speak to a dr within that window

EasilyDirected · 15/02/2023 17:35

There is a limited number of slots and when they're gone they're gone. Some days they don't open it at all if there are staff shortages. They keep their website and SM updated when that happens. They do usually get back to you the same day.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 15/02/2023 17:37

Ours has just adopted it. It goes on roughly when they feel like it/have a moment to activate it, then goes off between 1 - 129 minutes before lunch, then comes back online at n point past the scheduled 2pm, then goes off somewhere between two hours to twenty minutes before the published cut off time of closing/6pm.

At least it doesn't cost to keep attempting to log in like it does trying to call, but it is annoying when you want to request a repeat prescription and have to wait until they're open - suppose it filters out people who are prone to forgetting or have to wait for a relative to make the request for them.

Not entirely happy with a telephone appointment scheduled for five minutes before I'm in the building for a blood test Friday morning, though. I'd rather not have to have the discussion in the waiting room; if I try and change the time for either, that'll mean it gets cancelled.

olderthanyouthink · 15/02/2023 17:38

In theory all day while they're open I think. In practice by 9/10am the quota is filled and you'll need to try again tomorrow. Opens at 7am

Oblomov23 · 15/02/2023 17:40

Ours opens at 7.45am and is often full by 8.05am. I get my text ready and try and get it in. If not I swear and try again the next day. You can phone. I do if desperate. You are number 25 in the queue ....

Wheretheskyisblue · 15/02/2023 17:54

Ours is 8.00 to 5.30pm, they also answer the phone and book you an appointment if you call. We are really lucky, we are in a rural area and there seems to be enough GPs for the population.

mumda · 15/02/2023 18:00

It is possible to book appointments via the NHS app with our GP. Appointment for tomorrow obtained around lunchtime today. I do wonder if someone has died to free up that appointment as the next is after March 1st.

amberedover · 15/02/2023 20:05

So much variation .I guess the practices responses are dependent on staffing and local management decisions .
Is there a national template/offer sort of thing that practices should try and conform to ??
