No period, should I be worried?

cindylawlessly · 14/02/2023 18:59

I've not had a period in 14 months now.

Not breastfeeding etc.

GP says to wait a few more months before he does a gynae referral, and says it's because I'm 'still young' Hmm He says my age might mean my hormones are imbalanced for a while

I am 25. I started at 10, and they've actually been regular and fuss free since that age. Always 30/31 days between cycles.

I have a 5 year old and a 2 year old. Any advice would very much be appreciated

Did they suddenly stop or did your cycles gradually get longer each time, then stop?

cindylawlessly · 14/02/2023 19:19

@SingingSands suddenly just stopped. One day my period just didn't turn up. Negative test. Put it out of my mind until about 3 months had gone by and still nothing

This is the 14th missing cycle

Wow me your GP doesn’t think this needs investigating? Are you a healthy BMI?

GirlInterrupted · 14/02/2023 19:22

I am the same, although I am much older than you, but too young for menopause apparently. I think it was the covid jab that stopped mine.

SingingSands · 14/02/2023 19:24

I'd ask the Dr for a blood test, specifically to test your prolactin levels.

You may have a prolactinoma - a small benign growth on your pituitary gland.

I have one - discovered after a blood test. I just thought it was early menopause, hadn't had a period in 4 years!

High prolactin levels can stop your periods.

Worth another chat with a different GP perhaps?

I would absolutely be pushing to be seen by a specialist. Are you well in yourself otherwise?

TheIsaacs · 14/02/2023 19:51

No, push to get seen. Get a second opinion. That’s not normal and it doesn’t matter that you are young.

Whataretheodds · 14/02/2023 19:53

It doesn't take 15 years for periods to settle into a normal pattern, def push to be seen/request a second opinion.

Luana1 · 14/02/2023 19:53

You need a new GP, something is clearly not right, I'm not sure why he/she is saying to wait a few more months.
